Take a glimpse at cult comic Frank Sidebottom – as you've never seen him before.

Artists are now putting the finishing touches to a life-size statue of the iconic character ahead of its unveiling.

The latest images show the finished cast of the bronze tribute in a foundry in the Czech Republic.

The statue will now be polished and painted black. The head will then be coloured to replicate Frank's famous papier-mache head.

Frank was the alter ego of comedian, artist and musician Chris Sievey, who died suddenly aged 54 in 2010 after a short battle with cancer.

The £20,000 statue, designed in a classic Frank pose, will sit at the junction of Stockport Road and Park Road in Timperley, Altrincham.

Organisers are due to launch an appeal shortly to plug an estimated final £1,500 shortfall in the project.

Timperley councillor Neil Taylor, a spokesman for the project, said that after a series of minor delays, the statue could be on its way to Timperley within a month.

He said: “We hope to bring Frank home very soon for him to gaze at the Timperley sunset forever.

“We are still going to have a shortfall of around £1,500 and once we have the final figures we will put out an appeal to raise the final costs.

“The cast has now been completed, which is great news. It is going to be painted and finished next week, we believe.

“The body will be black and the head will be coloured as the stand-out feature.

“The head will be the focal point, as it was with Frank, and it was designed from an actual 3D scan of one of Frank's original heads.

“We hope to announce details of further fundraising soon.”

A final unveiling date has yet to be announced.
