Recreationalcannabis

"Colorado and Washington have become the first US states to legalise the possession and sale of marijuana for recreational use.

The legalisation will set the stage for a possible showdown with newly re-elected President Barack Obama as the states’ initiative is in defiance of the US Department for Justice’s federal laws which consider marijuana an illegal narcotic.

Supporters of Colorado’s constitutional amendment were the first to declare victory after returns showed 53 per cent voted in favour."

You're free to possess it anywhere...just don't get caught with it :chuckle:

In Arizona if you have a certain amount of genetics that tie back to Native American's (or a tribal card thingy), you can legally carry up to an ounce I think and if you say it is for Shamanistic use, cops can't touch you.
I came into this world kicking and screaming while covered in someone elses blood
and I have no problem with going out the same way

Mason Tvert, co-director of the Colorado pro-legalization campaign said: “Colorado will no longer have laws that steer people toward using alcohol, and adults will be free to use marijuana instead if that is what they prefer. And we will be better off as a society because of it.”

^ Won't be long now ^

Just think of all the revenue the governments could make on this stuff, not that anyone would be doing much if it was legal here in the UK :chuckle:

Colorado and Washington have already legalised marijuana for medical purposes, but full legalisation is sure to put them in further conflict with the federal government.

G'day Drude.

Thanks for posting the article mate.

I'd be VERY interested in knowing whether this actually is a "full legalisation" or if it is a 'decriminalisation' that is going to be put into effect. Considering the treaty through the International Narcotics Control Board, it would appear that making cannabis 'legal' by the countries on the treaty would be 'illegal' and leave them open to action against them (there's more at the link as to what can/is done to countries violating the treaty (even if they aren't on/haven't signed the treaty).

This is definitely going to be a MAJOR issue in relationship to each country adopting different laws regarding the cultivation of, sale of, and use of cannabis. It will be interesting to see exactly what steps will be taken to counter this "full legalisation".

.....

Article 14 of the Single Convention, Article 19 of the Convention on Psychotropic Drugs, and Article 22 of the Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances give the Board the authority to investigate the failure of any country or region to carry out the Convention's provisions. This includes countries that are not Parties to the Conventions. The Board can ask for explanations from the Government in question, propose that a study of the matter be carried out in its territory, and call upon the Government to adopt remedial measures.

.....

In the Netherlands, for example, soft drugs like cannabis and psilocybin mushrooms are widely available and tolerated but not officially legal because the Dutch government wants to adhere to international treaties. Full legalization of soft drugs will likely result in widespread criticism from the international community because of not adhering to the International Narcotics Board's policy on certain drugs.

G'day!

Well according to all the press headlines it does seem to be true, but you know what they are like!
Let's face it though, this stuff is a very powerful drug and parents will be worrying their heads off if it could be bought over the counter. From my own personal perspective though, I think this plant has been demonized by the drug companies and all of the alcohol producers in fear of loosing their power over us. Not going to woffle on about all the stats but people can do the research for themselves and see. The other things to remember are you don't have to smoke it to feel it's benefits!
Looks like a good story to watch though...
