Hey, I'm not square, you're the one that's square. I'm not interested in the occult content of the meetings but very interested in the orgies which invariably follow. I soon discovered that the young women about to be initiated into the club are about to find themselves in the clutches of a whole bevy of Saturnists, including the Iris witch herself, her daughter and the lecherous Lady Luggala and is due to be ritually initated by the Priest of Satan...

In his prolific output as a historian, McCormick was attracted to controversial topics on which verifiable evidence was scarce. He wrote histories of the Russian, Chinese, Japanese, British, and Israeli secret services, and biographies of Sir Maurice Oldfield and Ian Fleming...

What's Bred in the Bone is the second novel in the Canadian writer Robertson Davies' Cornish Trilogy. It is the life story of Francis or Frank Cornish, whose death and will were the starting point for the first novel, The Rebel Angels.
After a brief framing scene among characters from The Rebel Angels, the novel turns to a conversation between the Recording Angel and the daimon in charge of Cornish's life. The main part of the book is that life as narrated by the Recording Angel, interspersed with comments in which the daimon explains how he worked to make Cornish a great man.
We follow Cornish's life from his two Canadian grandparents — part of "what's bred in the bone" — through his childhood as a wealthy and precocious misfit in a small Ontario town, his education in Toronto and Oxford, his unusual apprenticeship as a restorer and painter in Nazi Germany, his wartime experiences in England, his postwar work with a group resembling the Monuments Men, and his collecting and patronage of the arts in Toronto. A repeated theme in his mature years is art forgery...

The Deceiver is a novel by Frederick Forsyth, about a retiring agent of the British SIS named Sam McCready. He is the head of Deception, Disinformation and Psychological Operations, and his maverick but brilliant successes have led to his nickname "The Deceiver." During a visit of the Soviet Military Intelligence Corps (GRU) to Britain, one of them phones the Central Intelligence Agency's London outpost, and defects to the U.S. He introduces himself as KGB Colonel Pyotr Orlov...
Common Themes Similar to John Le Carre, Forsyth's novels often depict a schism within the British espionage community (and within the British government as a whole), between those officers who favor a conciliatory, subservient relationship with the better resourced American C.I.A., and those who favor a more independent approach... In Forsyth's subsequent novel, The Fist of God, taking place during the Persian Gulf War, the Americans and British become suddenly (even comically) aware of the inadequacy of these approaches in giving them real insight into Saddam Hussein's true intentions, and begin searching desperately for a way to infiltrate the Iraqi regime with a living agent. In an afterword, Forsyth makes his point explicit, that humint is still a necessary part of espionage...Laccaria laccata, commonly known as the deceiver, or waxy laccaria, is a white-spored species of small edible mushroom found throughout North America and Europe...Although small, the deceiver is edible and mild-tasting. However, it is important to distinguish it from potentially lethal small brown mushrooms...

The local Michigan politician who protected this Mafia pornography ring was Gerald Ford -- the same Gerald Ford who became President and very much a reason why I ended up in a political realm of the MK Ultra mind control operation. When my father agreed to sell me, Gerald Ford came to our house and explained to my father how to raise me according to government specifications for mind control. He then flew my father to Boston for a 2-week course in what my father termed "reverse psychology." In essence this was neuro-linguistic programming. It was the language of the subconscious because the subconscious has no ability to reason, question, or analyze things the way that our conscious mind does. The subconscious mind takes things very literally and allows a person skilled in reverse psychology some extreme controls over another's mind.
Since the trauma I endured was so extreme, there was no way to consciously comprehend it. I had no place for it in my conscious mind so I operated on a subconscious level. Therefore my father's ability to manipulate my subconscious was extremely powerful...
Theories of brainwashing and of mind control were originally developed to explain how totalitarian regimes appeared to succeed systematically in indoctrinating prisoners of war through propaganda and torture techniques. These theories were later expanded and modified by psychologists including Margaret Singer, to explain a wider range of phenomena, especially conversions to new religious movements (NRMs). A third-generation theory proposed by Ben Zablocki focused on the utilization of mind control to retain members of NRMs and cults...
Winston suspects that O'Brien is secretly opposing the Party. Eventually O'Brien approaches Winston with some leading remarks which seem to confirm Winston's suspicions. Winston finds the courage to approach him candidly, declaring himself an enemy of the totalitarian state. At first, Winston's intuition seems to be correct: O'Brien presents himself as a member of the "Brotherhood" seeking to overthrow the Party. In truth, O'Brien is an agent of the Thought Police, and is completely loyal to the party and to Ingsoc. He is part of a false flag resistance movement whose real goal is to find thought-criminals (citizens who think something that is deemed to be unacceptable by the party), lure them in by pretending to be on their side, then arrest and "cure" them...

SANCTUS is an apocalyptic conspiracy thriller like no other – it re-sets the bar for excitement and fascination, and marks the debut of a major talent in Simon Toyne.
It's the 1st of a tilogy & have just started it, but had to delay due to epic migraine that effects the eyeballs. I'm expecting it to be a bit Dan Brownish. Enjoyed the 1st chapter and found it quite captivating.

Finished the last of that trilogy a few weeks back. Standard kind of religo-thrillo but it has an interesting twist. I like authors with a bit of imagination and Toyne has a pretty cool one.
Some nice characters as well.
Si me puede disparar los conejos, a continuación, puedo disparar fascistas
I heard an excerpt of it on the radio, and it did sound like the writing of a bright little girl - so far as you could tell. I had my cheating radar turned on.
