Many thanks Irre/Mr Wolf.

Some great contributions especially the Verdi Deus Irae (Karajan :notworthy: directing the Berlin Phil, no less--xtra kudos).

5 star rating

Thanks mikey :)
I'm new really to this kind of music, I've heard it all through my life but only recently decided to sit down and listen to it. I bought my first symphony a couple of weeks back, Beethoven's 9th (Ferenc Fricsay)... I've listened to it a few times and was surprised by how emotionally involving it is. I'll buy more 9ths by other conductors, Furtwengler, Karajan, Bernstein, etc.
There's a lot of versions of the 9th on youtube, sound quality on some of them is not great, but they are interesting, especially the Furtwengler one on Hitler's birthday, I haven't listened to it all, but the few minutes I have, well the atmosphere is pretty heavy.

I'll explore the world of classical, there's an ocean of stuff out there... I'll listen to more Verdi, more Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Mozart, the list goes on :chuckle:

Where are the pointers? :D

In the meantime, let's enjoy a bit of Dvorak's Requiem Dies Irae... if enjoy is the right word :chuckle: I like the dramatic stuff.

This is an interesting BBC doc about Beethoven, quite long but a good watch imo, even for non classical fans. One of the greatest men in the history of the world, a tragic genius.

You posted two Requiems so I think I will off two more: Mozart's and Faure's.

This is the Lacrimosa (or "weeping") and it starts at 1:26. I post this version because the conductor (Bernstein ) takes the piece at a slow twmpo. (It is often plaeyed too fast IMHO these days). Leaonard Bernstein, quite the composer himself (West Side Story) , dedicated this to his recently deceased wife. It is grief in sound.

On the happier side there is the In Paradisium from the Requiem of Faure

When you have the chance, listen to the bothe Requiems in their entirty, bit I should tell you that the Lacrimosa was the final movement that was written by Mozart. The remaining part was written by a student of his IIRC.

That Lacrimosa had an immediate effect on me.
The Paradisium was beautiful :)

The first 7 or so minutes of this are stunning, I'll listen to the whole of it one day soon.

Lacrimosa is beautiful. You may be right about the tempo too, mikey.

This YT version has lyrics though not sure how accurate:

What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind.

-Buddha
