I like him now, but growing up I couldn't understand why people would voluntarily listen to him.

I was raised on Buddy Holly, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison & The Dubliners. I detested them all as a child, but love them all now. :moon:

...where, as much as I like some of Springsteen's stuff, the contrast between his strained shouting, and Orbison's sweet, powerful singing speaks for itself (im correct o). :chuckle:

I wasn't into Elvis then, nor am I now. I merely knew who he was back then and nothing more. Yet when that announcement came on the TV, I remember my next door neighbour running out her house and shouting it out from her garden before she burst into tears. I was standing in my own front garden. I remember how sunny it was, exactly what I was wearing, who was there with me ... heaps of little details in fact, as if its a moment frozen in time. Strange how the mind works sometimes.

Couldn't find the UK version of the announcement.
