I saw him on RT this morning. Cynics might say he went on largely because he has a new CD out ;)

If doesn't think "an audience" should be punished for illegally downloading music, would he be ok
if someone copied his new CD and made it available for download?

So would people who don't like his political POV.

I guess some people don't believe in anything but enlightened self-interest. And they don't want anybody else to, either.

“For any person to make the effort to listen to something that I have done is so flattering. It’s such a compliment,” he told Music Ally when asked about the range of digital distribution channels available today and whether artists are being properly remunerated. “I can’t really be worked up about how they are listening to it. For me the focus is on the music itself and the relationship that the listener might have to the music.

There's your answer.

Never liked his music, never liked his college boy pretense. Don't rate much he had to say there either. Largely incoherent was my impression.

You both have every right to your opinion. :urok: I wouldn't call myself an avid fan but I did really like PLAY back in the day. As for what he had to say: I welcomed it as the answer to the Metallica greedy lot.

The music one likes does not make one gay. Not that I feel insulted in the least.

I love lots of music written and performed by gay folks. Their sexuality is rather by the by. Their humanity, OTOH, is very much my concern.

You really need to grow the fuck up.

I really liked Play as well I saw him touring it in smaller venues before he licenced every track of the album out to adverts - which spoiled it but made him a fortune!

I guess that it is hard to be a commercial success with music without being somehow "selling out".

That's even true of groups and musicians that always seemed somehow above all that.

Even Robert Smith of The Cure had to make such compromises and let his music be used in advertising even when he is personally against it. (see link below)
www.side-line.com/news_comments.php?id=36843_0_2_0_C

Meanwhile Moby, while hardly a saint, is at least giving something back.
After seeing the benefits of licensing his songs out, Moby gave back somewhat with the creation of MobyGratis.com. The site started in 2008 (and was updated in 2013) with free music Moby made available to film students as well as non-profit and indie filmmakers to use for non-commercial purposes. The page served as a huge perk to filmmakers with Moby stating that if any monies were received from these films possibly becoming commercial, all proceeds would be donated to a humane society. The page has over 150 songs available for use.

So he is no Robert Smith but he is no Pepsi guzzling George Michael, litigious Lars Ulrich or would-be-saviour Bono either.

I love choir music. At the moment I am listening to a lot of Orthodox sacred music from Eastern Europe.

Lovely stuff, isn't it?

Why would I have played music from Serbia in an English lesson?

To remind them of their experience in the Balkans?-- Hardly!

Being sacred music, it is the usual scriptural stuff; Psalm 135 in this particular instance. We are usually used to hearing that sung in Latin because of the Western European tradition. Composers such as Vivaldi, Mozart, Bach, Handel, Elgar, etc have all composed sacred music from scripture sung in Latin. What makes, to my mind, this music both hauntingly familiar and yet exotic, is that the texts are the same in Church Slavonic, the Eastern Orthodox liturgical language. Moreover the harmonies come from a different musical tradition.

I am very happy you liked it, Gilly. For me it is just scratching the surface of the Eastern European culture that I am getting really interested in. I will post just one more cos this lady's voice is incredible.
