For those of you lucky enough to live in a hot climate, here is a simple diy air conditioner, made with minimal materials..
Or for a diy dehumidifer, you would need an old small fridge, and remove the door. Thats your dehumidifier, job done. I,ve seen some diy units, made from old working fridges, with a power supply united from a pc, and the accompanying fans fitted into the door, one faced for air circulation in, and one faced for circulation outwards. The circulated air hits the cold plate of the fridge, condenses, and falls to a collector bottle at the base of the unit. The air that is no longer moisture laden is returned to the room.
I use to use this type of unit as a timber drying dehumidifier, within a stack of sawn timber. Every 2 weeks I was drawing of about 6 gallons of water from the unit. It was distilled water , so could be used for an iron, or car battery. This method controlled the environment around the timber to such a degree, that it allowed the timber to give up its water content over a period of time.
