Do you read indymedia?

There were/are people willing to track down the key people in the bigger stories purely for the sake of establishing the facts.
So you're reading people's opinions on subjects.
The main point of this is that I tried to do that with the subject of climate change, collect a range of sources from the "key people" specifically asking for no derails (to no avail) yet after 3 posts the thread was moved, that imo would have served as a better source for climate news than the occasional atomised article from the Independent or new scientist, surely you would prefer news on a topic to be in a thread relating to that topic and not atomised and divided up throughout the various pages of todays news?

Setting a biased agenda with only 1 opinion is not 'establishing facts'.

If someone spams shit then just use the mod stick and be done with it.

It wasn't really about addressing spam. Taking the Sandy Hook thread as an example, regardless of actually went on within it (separate issue), when a thread becomes 30+ pages and the majority of that is discussion, the actual story and facts around it can get buried and anyone stumbling across the forum looking for info of the incident would probably give up and move on.

Possibly, but then again do we want a section that is nothing more than links to other articles?
Would people who would otherwise move on not perhaps be best left to move on because they're not interested in discussing it anyway?

And I'm currently going through Todays News moving anything that hasn't been posted on for a month to a more relevant section.

I start by moving all andyh's posts to the tech forum and WUB's into economy and tend to find 50% of the job is done :chuckle:

Shush! It's been done now. :hahano:

I'm already noticing potential problems but am happy to go with it for now.

I envisage the discussion section remaining 'unsorted' ie. all threads will remain in that forum, as for Todays News I intend being more 'hands on' with moving stuff to a more appropriate forum once it has been 'dead' a month. I suppose it would then be open to discussion within that thread (possibly merge any relevant ongoing Todays News Discussion) after the 'facts' have been gathered

Yes, obviously because I believe ice only melts above freezing point (cough) I must be a climate 'denier' LMFAO!!!

What was it Wogan said to Icke...they're not laughing with you, they're laughing AT you.

The reason why you're being laughed at is quite simply because you seem to think the matter is worth discussing at all. You asked someone to point out more important matters and I did :p

OK, an issue. WUB has started a thread, someone has commented, it's in Todays News. sanctumzone.co.uk/forum/todays-news/9096...le-energy.html#92838
I can:
Move the whole thing to Todays News Discussion but that wouldn't resolve the issue that brought the idea about as WUBs thread will have been effectively sidetracked on post#2.
Delete the post of a poster who is blissfully unaware of the change.
OP a thread myself in Todays News Discussion quoting WUB and moving subsequent discussion posts to that thread.

Help!

P.S. there is no option to copy a thread, only move it to another forum.

It's alright to just move it this time. I'm happy for any thread I open to be open for discussion, it just gets a bit daft and childish on certain threads, like the Sandy Hook one, where certain people keep posting the same thing over and over again and it becomes time consuming to separate the wheat from the chaff. Generally everything should be open for discussion, but I can see the value in that of having a thread that is confined to on-topic material only.

Unfortunately, you can put any system you want in place but some people will always piss about and behave immaturely, it's inevitable.

15 pages of Todays News and a load of barely used specialist forums?

If that's what everyone wants I'll stop filing stuff in a more appropriate place.
