Right, apologies for appearing to not have much to contribute to this thread in regards to the change of ownership for our site.
It's not because I didn't have anything to say, quite the opposite in fact. But until I was sure of a few things, I thought it best if I waited until I'd thought things through carefully and thoroughly... and of course, spoke to DG. Now I've done all of those things, I'll let you's know where I'm at it with it all.

Firstly, (even though it doesn't likely need said) I want to say I adore this place and would love nothing more than to be able to take over officially but at this moment in my life it just isn't possible for reasons I'd rather not go into. Can't say I'm not gutted because it just wouldn't be true and I didn't come to that decision easily nor is it what I want... but that's the bottom line so there's no point dwelling.

But someone has to and DG is definiately ready to do just that. Most of us are aware that this has been discussed more than once already with no outcome but this time around he means it and I have no reason whatsoever to doubt him.

He's asked me to repost a few things he said when we were talking so here they are.



I still find all this quite emotional in all honesty. Bit stupid probably as enough time and incidents have transpired to have gotten over it really.... but I guess I didn't.
It doesn't help that my head more often than not, takes me back to the start... when it was just DG and myself sitting twiddling our thumbs on his newly created site, bored, wondering what to do next. The rest, as they say, is history.


Anyway. Stuff to discuss and all that jazz.

I've always been aware of the legal responsibilities, from what went on at DIF - saw a few panic attacks there when other so called conspiracy researchers threatened to sue due to disparaging comments about them being posted. I'm thinking that's why they shut down that section eventually. And you've always to be wary of people posting anything libelous or inciting violence etc. etc It needs to be taken seriously...

You can't be flippant about breaches of copyright either.

Then you have the type of troll-head, who is well aware of possible legal repercussions for the site-owners, and deliberately sets out to create trouble, thinking themselves clever enough to evade personal accountability.

I don't know about Toby - name & address details being accessed.

Just to reiterate, I'm not for competing with anyone over gaining ownership, or owt like that. Others would be better at it anyway, having a better understanding on the technical side of things. I'd just have been prepared to step in to let DG get shut if nobody else had come forward, and am very happy to see someone else do it.

I can understand your sadness at the way things transpired, Sket.

I hope you don't think anyone harbors any ill-feeling towards yourself for not taking over legal ownership by the way, because I'm certain they don't, and are just grateful that you took over the practical running of things.

I'm fine with whoever just so long as it gets done, I'd be worried about it lasting much longer otherwise.
To take over the billing though whoever does it has to be paying for the hosting and the domain and have access to both and named account holder on both.
Its difficult for the latter because both SZ and TZ are on the same hosting account so the hosts would have to be willing to split them into two separate accounts for us.

Is that not what the donations are for?

Nothings changed on DG's end. I think he's just waiting for us to decide on who's doing it and then the rest will follow I presume.

Id probably suggest staying with the same host for a smooth transition just because some of the plug ins are sensitive to different conditions and if you change hosts the forum might be down, (the dreaded fatal errors) ...then someone has to figure out what is causing it, and unfortunately its not good timing for myself right now to do all that.

That being said though im happy to keep helping out if sket and the members and new owner of the hosting account want me to that is, regardless of who takes the site on, time permitting. sometimes i have spare time to update and fix stuff etc etc, sometimes i dont.

anyway to give some idea of whats required... the hosting now is an innohost reseller account, see here www.innohosting.com/reseller.htm

we have the enterprise plan, the largest one they have. Which atm leaves plenty of space for site growth, even with TZ and SZ hosted on there, there is spare room there.

Disk space usage for SZ right now is around 3000 MB. Id say it wouldnt take too long a time to hit 5000 MB as more posts are made etc. So you'd probably want a hosting plan that is over 5000 MB imo.

Bandwidth usage per month, its no more than 25, 000 MB. Again you would want more than that in any plan to make sure you dont go over.

Now you wouldnt/dont really need a reseller account unless planning to sell hosting space to others or have more sites on the same account, so perhaps could go for one of these... www.innohosting.com/shared.htm ... maybe the e-commerce one, gives you 10, 000 MB space and is under 19 USD /month.

Hope that all makes sense to people other than andy.
