We seem to be having a bit of a 'wave' of members signing up to sell us something which makes a nice change from the socks who want to fling shit generally. Anyway, looking through the Admin area there are quite a number of members who have registered yet never posted. These may be innocent enough registrations that just didn't get used or they could be spambots/socks 'sat in waiting'.

How do people feel about them being deleted? We could offer a short amnesty so anyone wishing to keep their username has the opportunity to make a post, even if it's just a 'Hello' in the intros thread, or we could just get rid immediately.

Thoughts folks?

May have already been suggested but perhaps the simplest solution would be an automatic deletion after say, six months if no posts have ever been made?

At least you wouldn't then be accused of anything cuntish (in relation to this particular initiative at least).

What's this new policy of removing zero-posters? You guys really think it's all just trolls or socks in waiting? What's next, removing users who have stayed quiet for long enough? I for example, may stay out of certain forums or internet as whole for long periods of time, then to pop online later on.

I've seen this deletion of zero-posters before on other forums, did it on our bands boards too some years ago, and without an exception, those forums have more or less died a death at some point.

I don't think it's just about zero posters hex, I'd like to think log ins (or lack of) are involved too.
I scanned the user list yesterday and saw plenty that hadn't logged in since the day they signed up..Some of them over a year ago.

But huge number of registered members on the index page looks darn cool. Just like in the place which shall remain nameless. :chuckle:

Many are provable spambots Hex but if they haven't ever posted I can't understand how their removal would have any effect on the forum.
Keeping them on the roll would simply be a numbers vanity thing imo.

Posters we know are real but take lengthy time-outs are not an issue.
Yup we've had a few socks turn up recently and it's a pain in the ass that we have to manage crap because of them but hey, nothing new there eh?

Hows the band stuff going?
Good I hope.

Yea, you're right with spambots, those suck ass big time, we have had few bot attacks on our bands board in past, and it's annoying as hell..

Bandstuff is going just fine. ^^ Bit quiet about gigs though, three shows has been cancelled. But it doesn't matter that much atm, we have plenty of other things to do. We will do some photo sessions soon, and in next two months or so, we will record our second demo too. And I'm busy with my drumgear updating and practicing for new videos etc. So there's ton of stuff to do. :)

It's an idea to get rid of people who have never even visited the forum.
You guys really think it's all just trolls or socks in waiting?

And spambots. No other reason for it really is there?
What's next, removing users who have stayed quiet for long enough?

Categorically 'no' in my personal opinion.
I for example, may stay out of certain forums or internet as whole for long periods of time, then to pop online later on.

Not a problem.
I've seen this deletion of zero-posters before on other forums, did it on our bands boards too some years ago, and without an exception, those forums have more or less died a death at some point.

How can getting rid of people whose best intent towards the forum is to fulfill some voyeuristic need they have be detrimental to the forum?

And the less 'registered users' we have who aren't actually users is good for playing the numbers game if that's your thing. 20 odd of us active out of 350 looks worse than 20 odd of us active out of 200 who have bothered to ever sign in, 50 of those being in the last 6 months.

Statistics will always serve the purpose of those analysing the stats.

Again, Ta for the effort Oi. It does make sense to have a clear up in the light of recent events with um...Twats.

FTR, I am in no way suggesting that everyone who hasn't logged in for aeons is a Twat. Only that the Twats are Twats.
I'd love to see some more genuine folk here mixing up the thought pool. If you're reading this as a previously signed up genuine person that just never logged in and has now found your account deleted...

Please mither Oi and say hello :hi:

Please mither Oi and say hello :hi:

I'm more than happy to be mithered by disgruntled lurkers.

I still see this as a community lead forum, particularly so since taking on the facilitators title( I get you lot to tell me what to do rather than just doing what I'd want to do), I don't see silent members as particularly community orientated and (personally) don't see how they can be beneficial to the forum.

This whole train of thought actually came about as a result of a post of WUB's linking to DIF. Eternal spirit/positive forward made some comment about WUB commenting and he said something which indicated he knew WUB was a current poster here (probably in the hope the DIF mods would sanction him) but it got me wondering how many of those that sought to rid our existence on the DIF actually would rather get rid of our existence on the net. Not gonna happen but try telling that to a few deluded pro-Germanic NaN's.

Then throw into the mix the whole 'spillover' of other unrelated forums (except a few shared posters) and I can't help but think this tiny little corner of the interwebs those of us deem to be our own is such a threat....I'm happy to take credit/blame for drawing up the drawbridge/trollbridge.

I would hope the amount of abuse I have taken on behalf of this place (openly) shows I'm not one to runaway from my decisions. One thing I (hope) I can/will never seriously be considered is a swerver, least of all on the net! I'll swerve a beered up bar talk because there may be 'physical consequences' for me, I'll never swerve a war of words/pixels.

Papillon actually rejuvenated my raison d'etre here.

His/her flounce proves some want to watch us unhindered.

I still have to ask 'why?'.
