Hmmm. You have to have a very strong sense of social back-up and of a financial safety net beneath you in order to meander around in some kind of Brag Of Poverty. It is a bit of a first but there are other things he is doing that relate to ceremony and attitude.
He is recorded as saying that when presented ith regalia he said that "carinval is over" which means basically "no more fancy dress now"
That probably translates very harshly and many RW Xtians have taken great offense.
I loved it.
Then he said "I want a poor church for the poor"
And that made the neocons go mental
And then he said that he was attracted to women inhis life but he put that aside for his mission
And that I respect but can't quite grasp on an emotional level
But wow
He admitted carnal frailty and placed his celibacy as suffering and not an object of pride.
And then he went to to the last pope but declined to take the primary leadership of prayer but said to benedict: "we are brothers"
Which means that he has put the last (dying) pope on the same level which means we have two opoes.
The man exudes humility.
And now it seems that he is the reluctant pope.
Those that do not wish to lead us are often the best at that crappy job.

I do hope he's the Real Deal. My parents are still Catholic and, for believers like them, it would be lovely to have a pope who actually believes too and lives the life.
