What are the odds? Exeter man receives five identical birthday cards



What are the odds? Brian Marchant is still scratching his head after receiving five identical cards on his 80th birthday.

Brian, of Ladysmith Road, Heavitree, was delighted to receive the cards, each from a different friend or relative, including his wife Eileen, but was mystified how they all managed to be the same.

He said: “I couldn’t believe it. They arrived over two days and when I opened the second one I thought it was odd and that there couldn’t be anymore but then three more the same turned up.

“It was a bit like getting five numbers up on the lottery.”

Two of the cards came from Exeter while the others were from Clyst St Mary, Sidmouth and Gosport in Hampshire.

Said Brian: “It certainly made my birthday special - although I don’t know why people saw this card and thought of me.

It's almost as though there weren't too many options for 80 yrs old birthday cards and the local shops all had the same crap supplier.

This is easily explained by the fact it occured in Exeter....
Exeter is a well known dogging centre. Over the years this has led to everyone being related to everyone else, to such a degree that they all think the same, and are attracted to the same things. The Clysts, being essentially Exeter are just the inbreeding spreading out a bit... Nothing to see here.

Now one of the cards came from Sidmouth. That fits my explanation seeing as it aint much further east than the Clysts. No doubt the effects of that much dogging are radiating out from the hub of Exeter, like cancer.
