You mean the real big stuff, 36 inch diameter bowls, not on this laptop, but somewhere posted on the web..

The bowls are all made from fiddleback sycamore. Cut and planked by me in the woods. Air dried, then dried for 3 months with a home made dehumidifier kiln, and turned. The serving platters are all made in whych elm. All the items are coted in vegetable oil. Job done.
I,ll dig out the massive bowl pics if I can find them.

There are some samples on other sites here.

And maybe it's just me but I thought you three all got along... did I miss something? It's not usual that I do :spliff:

Oooh! Beekeeping is something I will definitely do before I die. Preferably sooner rather than later. I have personal reasons for this particular interest that are a bit beyond 'kwinkydinks'.

I did indeed. The bog oak was from a local bog, and was dated at 500 years of age. I carved it for a bog oak exhibition that was travelling around various period houses in Ireland. I gave it on loan to 2 young tourism students that were completeing their final year in college, and they asked me could I loan them something small in bog oak , as part of their final year project, and I loaned them this piece, and i was delighted to be of help to them. two lovely young people. I am a self taught woodcarver , and welcomed the opportunity to get to use bog oak, as decent stuff is fairly scarce.

I,m glad you like it :)

It was made about 10 years ago, and was made for sale at an exhibition in Powerscourt House. But my youngest lad, probably 10 at the time, thought it was one of the best pieces I had made, and said I shouldn,t sell it. So I gave it to him, and it sits on top of an oak unit in my sitting room.He is in his early twenties now, and still claims ownership. He finished his degree in model making for film and media, and has had 2 exhibitions in Belfast and Dublin recently, and he has been asked to exhibit in England this November. :)

I was going to do a "before" and "after" shot of this but there is no "after" because the comment didn't show up after I clicked on "Post" so undoubtedly they have to approve comments to be posted on his YouTube channel. Shame, cuz this would have been awesome! Oh well, it was worth a shot!! I guess now shawn will go crying to the YouTube police and get a strike put against my channel. Anyway, here it is:

Assuming that it is that same little twit running his YT channel too, I wonder if he'll even bother sending me a message or leaving a comment on my channel talking down to me in his oh-so-authoritative tone?

  • You have been banned for the following reason:
Advertising a banned forum using our PM service
  • Date the ban will be lifted: Never

So that is that. I wrote to quite a few folks and suggested they pop in here but left the name of the place in code.

It worked for over a week and I manged to contact very good people many of whom are now on SZ.

    So that tells us this;:
    1) They DO read PMs
    2) They read them very closely.

It is also possible that they do have acces to the private section on SZ cos up until yesterday I only talked about this on PMs.

Anyway, my banning was a question of time. I knew this two weeks ago so spent the time letting old friends know about this place so that I wasn't cut off from them. I also cleaned out and downloaded my PM files.

it is great to go out this way rather than giving merlincove and ES the satisfaction of getting it done. :righton:

I'm off to a ceilidh now with my fiddle and a purple beer voucher. :dimops:
