Factory worker took on legal minds in battle for justice for brother-in-law
A FACTORY worker has told how she took on barristers to fight for justice for her brother-in-law who died in police custody.
Tracey McCourt, a grandmother-of-one, was forced to battle the legal minds herself at the three-week inquest into Lenny McCourt's death because the family was denied Legal Aid.

While Durham Police had their own barristers and the Police Federation supplied another, the McCourt family stood alone at Crook Civic Centre.
But Mrs McCourt, who is married to Mr McCourt’s brother, Gene, refused to be daunted by the task and she simply “picked it up as I went along”.

She did extremely well - but it's so sad that she had to. I expect the tossers underestimated her.

She was complimented not only for doing it but the way she presented the case. She even managed to show the jury the actual police van he was dumped in. The cage he was kept in was barely large enough for a full size person and her brother in-law was a pretty big fella. Couple that with the fact he was face down in the cage it was pretty clear that plod had neglected basic procedure.

What makes it so galling is that none of the neglect factors were even considered in prior investigations. Shouldn't be surprised though. :(

She fought the law and..um..she won! I am woman, hear me roar! :D
