Not really no....if it goes all mad max then you'll be worried about hordes raping and plundering their way through cities, mass disease, famine, powercuts, no fresh water supplies, no fuel pumped and generally hell in a handbasket long before we even see 1 degree celsius increase let alone 0.4.

So no I really fail to see how the climate is relevant compared to that. If you can show that the world will boil in 2 years then by all means do so.

I completely agree with this
It's dirty tactics, in reality neither outcome andyh mentions there is likely to occur, not even possibly.

There is evidence that carbon emissions could create an irreversible catastrophe leading to boiling waters at some point, but imo there is no evidence at all to suggest civilisation will completely disintegrate/break down/devolve into rape and plunder, humans devolve into rapists and murderers over a matter of years in the absence of authoritarian forms of government.

No evidence ?

So the impossible to repay debt doesn't exist then, thank god for that :)

Hurricane Katrina anyone...albeit a micro example of what a 'climate disaster' can do.....and New Orleans has still not recovered all these years later.

Man made climate change is a whole different ball game.....are we just considering how our pollution is contributing? Are we going to open the discussion to chemtrails and geoengineering? Whichever/whatever, mother nature herself goes through her own natural cycles. At her speed, man has time to adapt and aclimatise.

If the question is geared more to how man will react to climate change......then see what I have said above. But to get to a point where we see robbing, raping, pilaging and general mayhem, then I'm with Andy....the colapse of the economy can happen overnight. Given the way the economy is structured where each economy is reliant on another, within 48 hrs tops it will be hell on earth out there. Perfect contributor to Agenda 21.

An interesting insight to your logic there andyh, it appears you think that minus a global economic system humans would immediately become raping, murdering barbarians like in Mad Max?

Again I see no evidence to support that claim, it's just a misanthropic perspective of humanity.

I might be wrong, but Mad Max came about because of no more oil......and then the economic consequences and all the bi-products that comes from oil also not being available.

Has anyone here ever watched The Road? A movie which looks at society colapse by what looks like Mother Earth kicking off bigtime very quickly.....a really good film

Yes The Road is a good film but the lesson in that movie and I assume the book it was based on(although I have not read it) is to stay human.

OK, fair enough, that is your view, so can you give/point me in the direction of some economic papers etc which say that society would not collapse if the economy would please? I am assuming they are out there otherwise did you come to this conclusion yourself? I am willing to take the time to read them.

Looking at history, to me, all the evidence shows that the colapse of the Egyptian, Roman etc empires all began with the economy, and their societies collapsed in turn. The problem we face today as I stated previously is that each individual economy is reliant on trade and thus economy with many many others, so what affects one will have a domino affect on those it trades with...the euro being the case in point here.

The book, as usual is far better than the film....but yes, that is the main but not the only purpose of the story being told.

The point I was trying to make by mentioning the film is that climate change whether as the title of the thread says is man made or not, is a very slow process. However it is not impossible for several major events like we'll use Yellowstone, the grear rift the mid atlantic ridge and other major hot spots to start kicking off together and thus having a knock on effect to other 'faults'. I will not pretend to say I can remember all the science, but the bio-sphere has 12 parts, and all 12 are now at a tipping point, whether naturally because of earths cycles or added to by man's pollution and geoengineering.

You and andyh bare the burden of proof to support you irrational and misanthropic claim that a few centuries of capitalism in a few developed countries has fundamentally changed the social basis of human existence.
Looking at history, to me, all the evidence shows that the colapse of the Egyptian, Roman etc empires all began with the economy, and their societies collapsed in turn. Empire is based on agricultural forms of society, the basis of empire never collapsed it merely developed, various countries overthrew other countries, the ideology and basis of human society, Empire never collapsed and was never overthrown.

Prior to 6000bc there was Hundreds of Thousands of years of human cooperation minus an economy. :alc:

I would suggest it means that until you are faced with something then you won`t really think about it. If you were on a ship that sank you might not think about it sinking and might doubt your ability to handle the situation but once it sinks that becomes reality and you deal with it. Sink or swim. ;)

Tell me thats not crazy :)
Several stabbings a day in the UK. It never ever used to be that bad, nothing like it.

As for humanity, fair enough, the 3rd world won't blink an eyelid, in fact they'll probably do even better than before because we'll leave them alone lol :)

Here in the 1st world though things will go to hell in a handbasket, unless everyone works for fuck all.
Can't see that scenario happening though :)
