But to get to a point where we see robbing, raping, pilaging and general mayhem, then I'm with Andy....the colapse of the economy can happen overnight. Given the way the economy is structured where each economy is reliant on another,
within 48 hrs tops it will be hell on earth out there.

Again I see no evidence to support that claim, it's just a misanthropic perspective of humanity.
OK, fair enough, that is your view, so can you give/point me in the direction of some economic papers etc which say that society would not collapse if the economy would please? I am assuming they are out there otherwise did you come to this conclusion yourself? I am willing to take the time to read them.
You and andyh bare the burden of proof to support you irrational and misanthropic claim that a few centuries of capitalism in a few developed countries has fundamentally changed the social basis of human existence.
Looking at history, to me, all the evidence shows that the colapse of the Egyptian, Roman etc empires all began with the economy, and their societies collapsed in turn. The problem we face today as I stated previously is that each individual economy is reliant on trade and thus economy with many many others, so what affects one will have a domino affect on those it trades with...the euro being the case in point here.
Empire is based on agricultural forms of society, the basis of empire never collapsed it merely developed, various countries overthrew other countries, the ideology and basis of human society, Empire never collapsed and was never overthrown.
Prior to 6000bc there was Hundreds of Thousands of years of human cooperation minus an economy.
