So, I've been thinking about getting a dehydrator... (when I get a job and get cash :chuckle: )
what do you guys think of it? My parents used to have one that looked like this:

Food Dehydrator

And it was actually pretty good, we put apple slices, banana slices and I think even peaches in it.. but then after a while, my dad thought it would be such a great idea to gift it to someone else :noway: aaaand we never got another one again.

If I'm able to get one, I'd like to try to make our own beef jerky. I heard that you can also make beef jerky in the oven, but I guess it would be easier to use a dehydrator. :D

What's it do then, kuma? Couldn't you just hang stuff in the larder for now? Oven sounds good for jerky too.

I was thinking about that too, and in fact, I found a website that shows how to make beef jerky from ground beef and in the oven right here.

Thanks for the videos, Ab!

Btw, in case someone is interested in buying a dehydrator, I read somewhere that this kind of dehydrator:

Excalibur Dehydrator 9 Tray Black Popup

is better than this kind:

Fd 35 Hero

the reason being that the round one has a fan at the bottom*, which means that the food on the bottom tray gets dehydrated faster than the tray at the very top, while the other dehydrator (the square one) has the fan on the back, meaning that all trays get the air in a horizontal fashion, meaning they all get dehydrated at the same time (or so the post I read claimed), but that the round dehydrator is still good if you consider yourself a "begginer" at all this stuff. :)

*Other dehydrators have the fan at the bottom, of course that's not the case in this ocassion, seeing that this Nesco dehydrator has it at the top, but i wonder if the tray at the bottom takes longer to dehydrate, then.

I had one just like that years ago and I made a Hell of a lot of beef jerky in it! My vote is for YES, get yourself a dehydrator and start up a good assortment of things for storage. You can never have too many dried foods laying around! And you always have the option to rehydrate in the event you want to make something using one of the dried products. For instance, beef jerky added to soups/stews. Other dried veggies or fruits used in the same way. Dehydrating is the new heroin!!
