Q: Where do you keep your breakfast cereal?
A: As revealed by an undercover reporter in 2003, the Queen keeps her cereal in plastic containers. But she’s highly unlikely to have ever attended a Tupperware party!
Q: Have you ever had your portrait done?
A: The Queen has had her portrait done a mere 129 times. Aussie pop artist Rolf Harris and A-list American snapper Annie Leibovitz are two of the more unlikely artists the Queen has sat for.
Q: Who is your favourite 70s TV cop?
A: Tough guy Theo, played by Telly Savalas, in Kojak, was the Queen’s favourite 70s TV cop. But’s it’s unlikely anyone has ever addressed The Queen with Kojak’s trademark line ‘Who loves ya, baby?’
Q: What do you drink to unwind?
A: It’s a gin and Dubonnet for Her Maj. Sales soared after the 2007 TV documentary The Royal Family at Work showed the butler mixing this tipple for the Queen.
Q: What do you keep in your handbag?
A: The Queen keeps hold of a plastic suction cup for hanging her handbag under tables. Strange but true, according royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith. The Queen doesn’t carry money unless she’s attending church and is the only person in Britain who doesn’t require a passport.
Q: What did you get for your 18th birthday?
A: A corgi called Susan. She was the first of 30 corgis the Queen has owned over the years.
Q: Where are most of your clothes from?
A: The Queen never buys off the peg. Angela Kelly, the daughter of a Liverpool dockworker, is Senior Dresser to the Queen and has designed for her since 2002. The Queen doesn’t do waste and designs sometimes incorporate fabrics given to her as presents some years ago.
Q: What’s your greatest passion?
A: The Queen loves anything to do with horses and racing. As a child the Queen loved to trot around pretending to be a horse. Nowadays she enjoys a copy of The Racing Post every day – even though it would be unseemly for a Queen to ever place a bet!
Q: What was your first job?
A: In 1945 aged 19 the then princess did her bit for the war by joining the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service in Surrey as a driver and mechanic.
Q: What jewellery do you wear?
A: The Queen has a jewel-encrustened mega crown that stands 31.5cm high and weighs in at 0.91kg – that’s almost two large bags of sugar! For the State Opening of Parliament the crown gets its very own carriage to travel to the Palace of Westminster.
