Our friend, Cinders, had a homemade Carmen Miranda outfit...made from flip-flops of all the things.
He was an outrageous and lovely man, he survived the bomb in the Admiral Duncan,
only to be murdered by some feral kids a few years later.
Jeez, sorry to hear about that jhado.
I think everyone 'knew' cinders, if you get me. I never met him but apparently a lovely guy.
Have you been to the AD since? It's still creeps me out a bit, tbh.
I'm glad that his name live's on. And let's not forget Mark either.
We avoid the Duncan now, it creeps us out too, we went back after the bomb but it isn't the same now
It's definitely a very odd atmosphere in there now. I'm surprised they stayed open in one sense, simply because of what happened there, but I'm glad they did. Soho feels unlike any other area of London for that reason, there is some real community spirit there.
I never went there before it happened, but it's all I can really think about when I am there now. You can still see damage to the brickwork inside, and I know why they left it there, but I never enjoy it in there all the same.
As for what happened to cinders afterwards...what can you say? I used to work with victims of crime and saw it for myself a few times. Those that were still alive were left with lots of healing to do, which just left me feeling a bit helpless really. The worst I've had in my adult life is being called "faggot" and that was only recently. I don't really know if it was because they thought I was gay or because it's just a cool thing to call people these days?
People. Go figure.
Would have loved to have seen Cinder's Carmen outfit!
