Well, the dongle has been great, but tonight I get a message telling me I need to top up.....I've had it nine days...been out of the country for three days...so in total I have only used it for six days. :(

I have now topped it up.... £25.00...By the time my broadband is set up in 10 days time....In total this dongle will have cost me £55.00...Very expensive for a few weeks.

Hi, sorry for butting in the conversation. I've heard the word dongle before and thought it only to be a type of software or file security apparatus, but now I think you guys are talking about an 'air card'. That's what you use on a wireless laptop when you might travel to areas where regular, wireless reception may be difficult or impossible. The air card uses cell towers - basically you have a computer working on the cell network - a bit slower and not always reliable. Is this a dongle?

Ive been told with 3 net work you can pay for an add on with mobile phone which is £15 and this will give you unlimited internet use for the whole month,just transfer the sim from mobile phone into dongle. Never done it myself yet just what a mate mentioned a while back.

You're correct coco dongles used to be primarily associated with software protection and security. The term seems to be used for a wider range of devices which dangle from a PC port these days. Here is info on the three wireless broadband dongles.

This dongle gives you wireless access to the mobile internet, wherever you are. Just plug it into the USB port on your laptop and you're ready to get connected.

Well, what do you know,while looking for air card examples I learned that "air card" turns out to be very two years ago, now they are called "mobile or wifi hotspots". :P
