I'm confident nobody here would be taken in by this kind of thing, but my mum was not long ago, so I'm bringing it up just in case (even if it only acts as a memory-jogger to warn your mum).

I often receive the emails like this one...

Dear Customer,

We detected some irregular activity on your Internet Banking account,
we have reasons to believe that your account has been
accesed by a third party.

For security reasons we ask you to login on Santander Internet Banking
as soon as posible and verify your account.

If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choise
but to temporaly suspend your account.

Click here to login securely

Yours sincerely,
Santander UK plc

...which is clearly, an incorrectly spelled scam attempt ('temporaly' )

Rather than just deleting, it's probably best to forward stuff like this to your bank, so that they can at least be aware of phishing trends to advise their other customers of.

I've had a new one this year too. I got a phone call a few months ago from someone introducing herself as being from Microsoft. She was very well-spoken with a dominant, authoritative attitude, and ordered me to log onto my PC, because, she said, they could see it was infected with a dangerous virus, which she would instruct me how to dispose of . Naturally, I told her to sling her hook. I got another call the same as the above a few days back.

I just get the ones from people or groups who have received millions or billions of £$ and want to give me some of it

Some even claim to be official government groups but for some reason have msn email accounts

Yep. I've had those emails from every known bank there is. Just delete them without opening.

AND I get regular emails for something called "sp support"; and a load of offers for Viagra (! Just, really, No!). Even though I block them every time, more arrive on a slightly different email addy. And always yahoo. I wish I could block yahoo altogether. I always "report it as phishing scam" on my delete options. It never seems to provoke Microsoft into really doing anything about any of them, though.

I get lots of ads for penis extensions. If anyone's interested, I can pass you some good discount offers.

And all kinds of advice on what I should buy to make me look exactly like Kate Middleton. These particular handbags & frocks are not a bad price since they apparently have magical properties. I'd buy them, but I don't want my mates to think I'm Kate Middleton. Imagine the confusion, if my kids thought it was Kate Middleton who'd suddenly walked in, shouting at them to pick their crap up and stop fist-fighting.
