As some of you know I lived in Aberdeen (well just outside it) for 10 years, working for the Journals up there specifically in business and oil. There has never been any doubt in my mind that the Scotts can go independent of the UK and make a rip roaring sucess of it.
It is a prime opportunity for a country to throw out the old 'rule book' and do everything from banking, to energy resources, to educaton and medical etc in a inventive and revolutionary way, which would be an example to every other country in the world.
Some of which they are already doing. Their legal system is well recognised by the majority of the profession world wide to be the best. Their education system is second to none, and don't start me on the loooong list of inventions the scotts have given the world and still do from the humble tea bag to the tyres on your car. I just wish the Scotts would focus on this opportunity, rather than what they will or will not lose financially, militarily etc.
If I could do it, I would move back up there in the blink of an eye....Scotland has a very special and unique energy that people can't appreciate unless they have lived up there, or as Scotts moved away for a period of time and then returned and then feel it.
What worries me about all this more than anything is that over the next 2 years, this is going to cause massive division amongst the Scotts....as historically it has always done, including pre-union. Add to that the fact that as Celts, who if not 'fighting' somebody else they fight amongst themselves. It does make me wonder what the 'hidden agenda' is behind all this....as there always has been in the case of Scotland's 'freedom' historically.
I hope there will be a voice up there to get the Scotts focused on what they CAN do, and not what they might or might not lose.
