I can't supply any photos as they happen so quickly and maybe that's why they have not been noticed.
I have myself seen at least 5 now. Both my son and myself have seen at least two of them together. I have friends in another part of UK who have seen them too.
Here goes with the description.....
They look more like an explosion as they have an epicentre. From the centre the blue coloured 'flash' spreads out, and here comes the weird bit...it then seems to suck back in on itself. There is sometimes an explosion noise that can be heard as it contracts in on itself. They 'appear' to be happening very high up in the atmosphere.
We have mulled over the idea that they could be space debris.
Anyone else?

I've seen two over the month

I thought the first one was a firework, then realized it was in the sky not just the atomsphere.

Could it be a shooting star though?

No, definately not shooting star/meteor etc.
This is definately like a high altitude explosion of some sort with an epicenter

I have no idea Dawney....I know they don't 'feel' right....they have a sinister'ness about them. Hence the reason I have started the thread to see if anyone else has seen them or has an explanation. My friends father who is totally entrenched in science and "there is an explanation for everything", saw this flash on his way over to my friends house. She was out in the garden and saw it too. The first thing he said to her when he arrived was "Did you just see that blue flash?". She thought he would have an explanation, but was very surprised not by the fact he didn't but by his total surprise and shock that he had witnessed something he couldn't explain.

There's been quite a few meteorites crashing to Earth and not fully burning up over the past couple months.
I noticed one only 3 nights ago but I was lucky to see the fireball as it fell very quickly, the blue colour and flash is characteristic of them.

It 'looked' close too but I know it landed quite a distance away, probably as much as 100 miles.

Please guys, this 'phenomenon' is not shooting stars or meteorites or comets or lightening....I am very familiar with all of these, and open minded enough to figure if this is some sort of 'twist' on one of these events. It is not....I have never in 50 years seen anything like it.....except some cgi in a sci-fi film.

I have tried describing it as best I can....it is an explosion, like a nuke going off but without the mushroom part and it's blue...which has made me think of some sort of 'electrical' thing.

I hope somebody else has seen it or one of you guys do.....nothing like seeing something for oneself when "no pic's or it didn't happen" can't be supplied.

I've seen them in the afternoons at random times as has my son. My friend has seen them at random times in the afternoons, the one she saw when her father was on his way over to her was around lunchtime.

No not like the Norway spiral at all...same sort of blue though. It's like a flash of sheet lightening which gives you an idea of the size....but I really am trying hard to explain that this has a centre point of origin, like an explosion....spreads out like a huge disc, blue in colour, and then, the weird bit like I said....it contracts back in on itself as though it is sucking the blue flash back into its point of origin. It really is like something out of a sci-fi film. Sometimes there is an explosion sounding noise, just a bang like a bomb which happens roughly when the flash reaches its maximum or when its 'sucking itself' back up. That I put down to some sort of delayed reaction...bit like you never hear the bullet that kills you.

Thanks for your responses guys......maybe if we are all a bit more vigilant some more of you might 'catch' one.

is it cloudy or clear sky? if you get some vid/pics that would be awesome. fyi geminids is this time of year and peaks next week

No idea if it's related but on Wednesday morning, on his way to work about 6am'ish, my man saw two massive blue/white flashes that covered the whole sky as far as he could see. He thought it unusual enough to mention it when he came home. Can't say if a noise accompanied them as he was driving the van with the radio on. In his opinion, it wasn't lightening.

Thanks Sketts....being where you are your hubby would have got a very clear view I would imagine.
As I have said I have not heard any noise with them, but my friend did as she was outdoors and her dad did I believe, as it was loud...and I think this is part of what 'spooked' him as it was not your 'normal' sky type thunder noise.

Back to the drawing board.....

Aint saying its it but i have seen both lightning and explosive flashes bounce off the sky and over the horizon.
The night sky can act like a reflector in certain weather
