I'm fine, I knew the guy pretty well and gave him rides, but we were never really close or on best friend type terms, he was a strange character in many ways, which may have been part of his decline in health, and his placed was pretty much scavenged after he past on caused he had no known family the neighbors went at it like buzzards.

Sorry Rick, I read it as a bad joke or something.

That's very sad. What do the carrion crow neighbours think they're playing at!

I was shocked at how expertly they removed appliances and even the bathtub he had, all the doors, water heater, and anything else they could ravage

I've seen some folk act like that at funerals. Squabbling over possessions, and pretending they want things for 'sentimental' reasons. It turns my stomach.

The other side of the coin, I suppose, is where parents blackmail their grown up kids with threats of cutting them out of their will if they don't do their bidding. I've seen that a couple of times too, and it also makes me sick. Stuff like some neighbours, telling their son he'd be struck from the will if he refused to have his sister as bridesmaid, which he hadn't been going to because she & his bride couldn't stand each other. I don't know which is worse - them making the threat, his sister smugly going along with it, or him caving so that he could get his hands on the dosh when they kicked the bucket! *shivers*

Just once my dad tried that on with us (my brothers & sister & myself) over a family issue, and after telling him to stick it in his ear, I was pleased to find out that the others had each independently told him the same thing - give or take an orifice. :)

A couple of years back i pulled out of my drive and a speeding motorbike came round the corner and hit me.

A 28 year old, married father of two lost his life in under 2 seconds. Happily blasting along one moment, snapped neck the next.

So yes, bang on rick. Our existence here is fragile. Live every moment like it's your last and forget about stuff. Stuff is just stuff. It's great to have some but not worth fretting over. Fretting over it takes you out of the moment.

The thing is he was a bit of a recluse, but needed rides and trusted me, his neighbors felt his place was a eye sore but they sure jumped on his house after he died and helped themselves to whatever they could get.

I had asked the man if he had anyone who I should contact if something went wrong with him, he said no they don't care about me, I didn't press the issue.
The reason I started this thread was the fact he went downhill so fast after seeming like a healthy individual, and that's what shocked me. and also the hoarding of stuff is not worth it, his place was packed to the ceiling, with things that him and a friend who had already passed on had accumulated.

I took him to a regularly scheduled doctors appointment, and he complained to the doctor about a headache, they admitted him for tests and found a tumor. Three weeks later he died suddenly, this after just having his original slight headache
