I would like to hear your thoughts also, but as for me a smoked turkey is the best there is, holiday season or not.

Chicken breast. I love roast spuds as well. I love the whole Christmas dinner actually. It's the only proper home cooked meal I have.
My mouth is already watering in anticipation.

We're having turkey this year though, as a change from chicken.

I usually have mash with a tin of beans and sausages...or pilchards...or a tin of fray bentos meatballs in tomato sauce. Hardly ever with gravy.
I want my Christmas dinner this year to weigh at least a stone, drenched in gravy. Probably won't happen though, my sis never really makes quite enough...I'll buy a bigger plate to encourage her.

And you're quite correct in your observations.

My mash is lovely. It's nice and fluffy, kind of melts in your mouth. I do the spuds, drain them, mash them in the pan with a fork, then put them in a bowl, add a knob of butter, let that melt, stir it in a bit, then I pour cold milk on, just a splash or two, or three, then mix the shit out of it, and transfer it to the plate. Then I sprinkle some sea salt onto it, and a bit of black pepper. It doesn't stick in your throat, and it's not greasy. I prefer using King Eddies, although they tend to dissolve in the pan if you're not careful.

My mash, even if I do say so myself, is fucking lovely.

I sometimes add vegetables I wouldn't otherwise eat to them too: do swedes, carrots or celeriac or something like that separately and when the potatoes are ready, mash them all in together. Nom nom nom.

My problem is compounded by the fact that the spuds out here are a bit shit. If I'm looking to impress I chuck some chives in my mash.

I like adding grated raw onion & cheese to mash. My daughter made some the other day that she'd had a couple of garlic cloves simmering along with the spuds, & mashed them in at the end. That was good too. Lots of butter for me, & lots of salt & pepper.

My favourite main course is beef bourguignon with the chunks of beef cut big, then left simmering till the meat almost disintegrates when you stick your fork in it. That's good with mash too.

I knew a guy that did ten years straight in the penitentiary a hard one no easy time in this particular facility, we got to talking about his time spent and what he thought about and what he missed the most, when the subject of food came up he said he missed the Thanksgiving dinner his mom made with the mashed potatoes and gravy, he made a point in mentioning those two items and the enjoyment they brought him while having them.

He like the stuffing also with gravy, and spoke of it also.

For me as a vegetarian the secret is in the seasoning of the food. I am very fond of black beans and rice Mexican style. A nice quorn curry or chips in pitta with lots of ketchup. I know I am a picky fucking eater.
