Just how much bullshit do we have to put up with in order to "keep the peace", "prove Love", "avoid offending" or "hurting feelings" or to "not cause trouble"??

I've got a little song & dance for ya & it goes a little something like this:

SWIM has fucking HAD IT with goddamn, bullshit, ass-fucking societal "norms". SWIM doesn't really want to play the games that other more easily pacified reindeers play. Case in point: Goddamn, motherfucking, suck-ass Christmas!!

Now, for years [roughly about 4] SWIM has "gone along to get along" and played this mind-numbing, soul-destroying, principal-disregarding, personal-preference-disrespecting charade of fakery and shallow, child-like nonsense and general two and a half ring circus of wasted time, money & energy at the guilt-tripping behest of others. Why??

Why should ANYONE have to take part in a bullshit affair just because a partner, family member or friend has some kind of mind-fucked insecurity about having to have everyone in on the festivities?? When SWIM presents his thoughts on the matter they get casually brushed aside with the old chestnut "I know, I understand how you feel and you have every right to feel that way. Nobody wants to make you feel any different about anything.... but we want you to still be there and take part as a family blah-blah-bleh...." WHAT THE FUCK??

Exactly HOW is SWIM being allowed to express his own personal feelings about said "holiday" and how are his beliefs being respected by this?? I'll tell ya how, they're NOT!! Bullshit, mind-fucking group-think is ass-raping SWIM into taking part in something that he has ZERO interest in and were this shoe on the other foot [trying to coerce other said family member that is vegetarian into eating meat, because everyone else eats meat here and we want you to take part and be one of us] then it would be a whooooole different ball of fucking wax!! THAT would be wrong. They would DEMAND that their beliefs and principals be Respected and not be asked to go against their own personal choice or course of conduct.

What sane, adult-thinking, loving person would rattle off "Well, if you don't write a Christmas list then people will just buy you things that you may or may not want...." Come again?? Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that sound a bit like, ooooh, I don't know, RAPE?? "Either submit or be trespassed upon!!"

How about treating an adult like a fucking adult?? If SWIM doesn't want to sit around worshipping worthless bullshit plastic material goods freshly ripped from wasted-ass paper made from illegitimately murdered trees then fuck the fuck off and let him be!! How's about THAT as my Christmas list?? Fuck Off & leave me the goddamn fuck alone!! It's cheap, it's exactly what I want and it can be found Everywhere!!!!

Second successful Xmas-free year under my belt this year though and people are beginning to get it. You should see their faces when I rock up to their houses with no gifts.

The first year it was all "I don't give to receive" and "It's my decision to celebrate and I want to so here's a gift from me".

Quite a different story this year...

They're still not interested in my reasons for not partaking though and most do something similar to sticking their fingers in their ears and loudly proclaiming "la, la, la" whenever they think I might talk about it. I don't give a shit though.

I'm not hating on anyone who does partake either...it's YOUR choice. Just as it iis mine and SWIM's choice to not partake.

Swim has a lot of anger pertaining to their childhood which is accentuated by being around family.
Perhaps I'm over analyzing and Swim just feels insincere celebrating or being happy?

Yes but if it's something that goes against SWIM's beliefs and feels wrong, there's no reason why he should feel guilty about wanting to have his own way. Each to his own. It's not fair of people to put any kind of pressure on others to comply with their wants.

Personally, I'm a hypocrite, in that I'm not religious, and see through the commercialism of Christmas, but choose to go along with it anyway (and generally enjoy it tbh). But I can certainly see good reasons why people might choose to reject it, and it seems fair enough to me.

People should do what they want. I always tell family members that it's OK if they want to buy presents for the kids, but not to buy for me or th'usband, because the expense gets ridiculous, & we don't want anything. But they ignore that & just go ahead & buy us stuff anyway. It's because they want to, so I don't let it make me feel uncomfortable.

SWIM is in no way bananas, phem.

Perhaps, it's just his 'conditioning' that is breaking down a bit. It's scary, but absolutely nothing to worry about. As long as he has his physical health, he will always be one step ahead.

People may try and convince him to seek counselling or take drugs, but from my experience, this is yet another form of manipulation and control on a societal level. It does help some, granted, but isn't for me.

Having the lifestyle I do has in fact really opened my eyes to this. Rest assured, SWIM isn't alone in feeling like this and is in fact, completely normal...

Well...what ever society is calling 'normal' these days anyway.

I struggle with that aspect particularly however, as I can't get my noggin around why that kind of embracing of family-members or even strangers isn't something we can't do every day of the year. I also really resent the fact that we are told we are allowed to do this and even granted a weeks leave - a whole week (or maybe just two days in some cases) out of an entire fekkin year!

What really sealed the deal for me though and what made me finally decide to bite the bullet and discard the whole thing altogether was looking into the actual possible meanings behind various celebrations or 'rituals'.

It really is very interesting stuff and always makes me think twice about what it is I am actually partaking in and giving my energy to. The same principle can be applied to any celebration or festival actually, not just religious ones. Queens Jubilee...for example.
