Personally I wouldn't

I find it odd that people want to take parts out of us and put them in other people

You are still alive when your organs are harvested ......i think that would hurt a bit , your not actually dead

Then you have people who have had a transplant that wake up and start behaving oddly , talking foreign languages fluently , thta is not normal

what about the people who sell a kidney......surely thats wrong

Would you want to receive a kidney from someone who's only option was to sell their bodyparts for money to live?

If your times up your times up .......sad but true ...........why start eugenics such as harvesting body parts to put them into an other adult so they can live for another year or so when they should actully be dead

I think it goes without saying that living in a word where people feel their only option to avoid starvation and/or homelessness is to sell an organ is not a world that many people would wish to live in nor actively promote as a good solution to ending poverty.

On the subject of voluntarily donating organs through the wish to prolong the life or the quality of life of a fellow human I have no issues with it. I am both a registered donor and also carry a donation card specifying that my body can be used for scientific research in place of animals.

The real problem imho is that we as a society have expectations on what medicine can do for us in order to extend and improve life and those expectations are at odds with the ability to keep up with demand. I personally would not want to see that demand met through further exploitation of animals or poor people.

I want to be a donor quite simply because if I can help to alleviate suffering I will. I cant say that I would necessarily donate an organ whilst i am still alive (though I would do so for family and friends) but once I am dead they are welcome to anything they can find use for, after all I am not in need of it anymore.

Before I got fecked up blood I was a blood donor and down as a bone marrow donor - but am excluded from that nowadays.

As long as it is all done through informed consent and voluntarily its all good :)

There aren't many organs you can give away whilst you're alive are there? You can give a kidney or some skin, but I don't know if you can donate a lung or part of one. Removing organs is intrusive, so you probably wouldn't do it for just anybody, unless there was a financial incentive involved. I can totally see why people sell their organs.

I would be a live donor for any member of my family or Mr P, if it wouldn't kill me.

If I'm dead they can have whatever they like and do what they want with it. It's a carcass and if it can help someone else out then that's great. A dead body could be used to patch someone else up, they could test stuff on it or it could be used for teaching doctors.

organs are harvested for donation whilst the heart is pumping (artificially in most cases) which means you are still alive when the remove the bits from you

I think the tales of people who have donor organs in them and start behaving oddly fascinating....talking new languages, starting to crave certain foods etc and it all links back to the person who donated the organ........very strange

Totally Dawn. I saw something about someone who had a heart transplant and they started to develop the donour's interests. Isn't it something to do with neurons? The gut and heart have them as as well as the brain.

I watched this film once about a man who had his 'chap' transplanted and similar hilarity ensued. I have to admit, I did have trouble concentrating on the storyline, such as it was.
