Here is what's coming next:

www.ai-cio.com/channel/NEWSMAKERS/Negati..._on_the_Horizon.html
Investors in the Eurozone should be readying themselves for negative interest rates following the announcement by the region's central bank that they are open-minded about such a move.

European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi yesterday said his committee had discussed the possibility of bringing the deposit rate – which has been at 0% for nearly a year – into negative territory. He added that the institution was prepared to deal with any consequences the move may bring. He also announced a cut in the refinancing rate from 0.75% to 0.5%.

Even before considering any effect the move would have on liabilities, reducing deposit rates would essentially mean investors would have to pay banks and other financial institutions to hold their cash and incur huge supplemental costs.

Are they fucking insane?

That said the high st banks are already lining up to all charge for normal accounts, bloody bastards.
RBS in Ireland want 3k in the account to avoid charges. AIB (allied irish not anglo) already charge exorbitant fees along with BOI.
AIB haven't even managed to give everyone a visa debit card yet, still using those stupid irish laser cards ffs. Useless bastards.

Perhaps, or perhaps the days of bankers wanting depositors to earn interest on money are coming to an end? :dunno:

I haven't heard this one being floated in Britain yet. I'd like to say if they did that I'd live without a bank account, but this has become literally impossible unless you're going to live as a beggar.

I haven't looked into the validity of this yet (although I'm sure it will be accurate), but MK site has an article about Ireland floating a deposit confiscation scheme today:

Edit: here's the Irish Times article:

The ghost cities in china serve no purpose RA, except an economic one for the workers who build it all.
It was a grass roots money pumping project.

This is actually what govt 'should' do. If they printed their own money with a treasury at 0% interest then this is what they would spend it on instead of wanker bankers.
Really really simple stuff tbh. A glaringly obvious one to do in the EU and the US is to roll out fibre to the street to every home in the country.
Can you imagine the economic returns from that?
Or how about supersonic air travel, more rail links, a bridge connecting alaska and russia, a tunnel between Ireland and the UK and so on and so on and so on.
There are thousands of things we could be doing that are productive, instead we are sat on our collective butts wasting time doing fuck all.

So where would some put their 'money' if more of this goes down.

Investing in gold as one option perhaps?

The price of which is set by bankers is it not? Im no gold expert but I can read wikipedia. :hahano:

The ghost estates in ireland were not a govt project, they were just private speculation gone mad.
There wasn't the market for it and the prices got ludicrous, hence all the empty houses. Most now belong to the banks who loaned the investment money for it all.

The MOTIVE here you see is PROFIT. And the only people who can be said to have profited here are the banks who NOT ONLY get real property for the loans they produce out of thin air but also got bloody bailouts too!
Govts motive for expansion projects would be different, their motive would be to keep the voters happy.
Although nowadays its about keeping the lobbyists happy isn't it?

Andy how can you say the Chinese had the right idea with projects such as building the ghost cities when years had gone by without people living in them?

China still has to much poverty to have ghost cities where poor people can't live...imo

Because it was govt spending into the grass roots of the economy.
Yes it was a stupid waste and there are much better things to have been done, but this is what you can expect from politicians.
What I meant by approval of it was the govt project put some money in workers pockets directly, this wasn't about borrowing money to pay banks to just keep them afloat and stealing property, china have a different problem to us but they are still tied in to us, if we do well then they do well, if we don't do well then they need to find things to do, do you see what I mean?

I would have preferred it had the chinese spent the money on broadband rollouts and farming improvements perhaps but you can't expect these world leaders to ever do anything right :)
