But the CEO got a 2.5 million 'bonus'.

EDIT: Added lloyds to the title, I thought it was 11000 at all UK banks but nope, looks like its just lloyds group.

Thats £227 bonus for each of the 11,000 that he sacked. Given they were probably all on £20k plus it sounds like a bit of a bargain. Well done Lloyds

I don't know if we can afford to pay some clerks 16K per year, though:

Not sacked for financial reasons, clearly.

More like a big stick for the rest of the banking workforce. Industry saw that during the 80s

It'll be all them automated machines.
My local Barclays is closing up shop...staff have been offered jobs at other branches...like 7-9 miles away, or redundancy. In the meantime they are going to be replaced with pay in and ATM's in my local Asda store...bloody marvelous. Barclays announced this move would be nationwide with I can't remember how many job losses before christmas.

The whole industry of personal banking is being remade. Nearly everything is online, DD etc now and that's where it's going. On steroids. In the run up to the conversion to fully digital.
It's another example of technological/ideological unemployment really innit.
Investment banks are already practically there with all the algorithms and shit doing the 'work' of fleecing folk.

Plus this Asda store is not a 24/7 job...it shuts at 10pm and opens at 8am....at least the barclays branch had an external ATM. Other ATM's are all in the store. The nearest 24/7 is at the local BP garage.

With that other threads about them nicking our savings, and needing excuse to get your money, now this. Who's door are we gonna bang on demanding our money back? I mean it will all be internet banking and automated call centers, no human interface to reason with and explain stuff.
