Human foot found in ‘suspicious package’ at Conservative Party headquarters


Several news outlets are reporting that a suspicious package delivered to the Conservative Party of Canada's headquarters in Ottawa appears to be a human foot.

The reports note that more than a dozen emergency vehicles and the haz-mat team arrived to investigate the package left at 130 Albert St after it was partially opened by a receptionist and deemed suspicious.

There are also unconfirmed stories that at least one Conservative staffer became ill.

Two men in white jumpsuits and masks were seen exiting the building around 1:45 p.m. pushing a large barrel.

Both the Tories and the police are refusing to confirm the box's contents.

"A suspicious package was sent to our office," Conservative Party spokesman Fred DeLorey told the Globe and Mail.

"The Ottawa police are investigating. All questions should be referred to them."

Ottawa Police said they are still investigating and would not confirm whether the offices were still under quarantine.

A police sergeant at the party's offices on Albert Street, just blocks from Parliament Hill, said he expected the Ottawa Police major crimes unit to issue a statement, possibly later today.

According to CBC News, police say the package appeared to a be a human foot in an X-ray but official confirmation will have to wait until the coroner has investigated.

Ottawa police Staff Sgt. Bruce Pirt says the suspicious package was delivered through Canada Post and police will be tracking its origin.

Meanwhile, the RCMP and Montreal police are also investigating the discovery of a human torso in a pile of garbage in the Côte-des-Neiges borough, west of Décarie Boulevard and checking to see if there is any link to the package found in Ottawa.

Police recovered a torso in a suitcase in Montreal today after a severed foot was sent to the Conservative Party Headquarters in Ottawa. The Montreal discovery was made by a concierge who was looking into complaints about a terrible odor coming from behind a building. The decomposing remains were found at 10:15 a.m in a suitcase in the trash bin.

Ottawa police are investigating the discovery of two body parts — including a bloodied human foot that was delivered by a Canada Post mailman to the Conservative Party headquarters.

Police confirmed late Tuesday that a second body part was found, hours after the coroner concluded that the first package “did contain a human foot.”

It was unclear what body part was in the second package or where it was found. Police wouldn’t confirm reports it was discovered at a Canada Post depot in downtown Ottawa. Canada Post refused to answer any questions late Tuesday, but said they were co-operating with police.

The gruesome sealed package sent to the Conservative Party on Tuesday morning was unknowingly accepted by a receptionist at the headquarters’ 12th-floor suite of offices, said Ottawa police Sgt. Steve Hodgson.

Hodgson said the package was “addressed to the Conservative Party of Canada, not to a person.”

The receptionist began to open the package before discovering “a substance that was deemed suspicious” and called police, he said.

The Ottawa police force, the coroner’s office and the RCMP attended the Albert Street offices, three blocks south of Parliament Hill, where the bizarre drama unfolded.

UPDATE: Police find human hand at postal terminal.

Police found a human hand at the Ottawa Postal Terminal Tuesday night, hours after a bloody foot was delivered to the Conservative party’s Ottawa headquarters just blocks from Parliament Hill.

Ottawa police were still trying to understand what they were dealing with even as detectives in Montreal combed through a crime scene where a torso was found in a suitcase in that city’s Snowdon district.

Police discovered the second package, sent from the same place as the package sent to Tory headquarters, Tuesday evening. Officers carried it from the huge Riverside Drive terminal in a brown paper bag, which they X-rayed before they opened it to find the hand.

What is going on with decapitated feet, whether bare or in shoes, washing up in Canada these past years?!



Evidently, this is some sort of message from a certain entity to a certain entity in the Canadian Capitol. What, I don't know.

As for the foot in Ottawa, I don't know about this..... and I hope it's not a staged PTB thing that will somehow be tied to the student uprising in Quebec, or the old P-R-S that leads to removal of more rights and freedoms. I can't help thinking that soon there will be a terrorist threat announced.

Montreal police are looking for Luka Rocco Magnotta in connection with the delivery of a human left foot to the Conservative Party of Canada headquarters in Ottawa and the discovery of body parts found in Ottawa and Montreal.

Police said Magnotta, 29, also known as Eric Clinton Newman, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant and police are asking for the public's help to find him.

Police said Magnotta knew the victim whose torso was found in Montreal on Tuesday.

Montreal police said he was not known to them and had no criminal record. But CBC News has learned that he was convicted on four counts of fraud in Ontario in 2005. He served 16 days pre-trial custody and was given a further nine-month conditional sentence and 12 months probation.

His last know address in Toronto was unit 410 at 100 Parkway Forest Drive.

However, the suspect's name has come up in association with videos showing the killing of kittens. A CBC News source said police are also investigating a possible connection between the suspect and Karla Homolka.

Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafrenière said he would not substantiate internet rumours about the suspect.

Second package addressed to Liberal Party

The discovery of the torso is believed to be linked to the discovery of the foot sent to the Conservative headquarters and a left hand found at a Canada Post terminal.

CBC News has also learned that the second package was addressed to the Liberal Party of Canada headquarters.

Sources also told the CBC's Evan Solomon that police have evidence of the suspect filming the killing and dismembering of the victim.

The hand and foot mailed to Ottawa were sent from a fake Montreal address, police said. Police also said there were other body parts sent by mail that they are still investigating.
'Horrible' crime scene

A second hand and foot were also found at the same location where the torso was found. Police have not positively identified the victim.

Lafrenière described the scene of the alleged crime as "horrible" but said investigators would be releasing few details for now.

"The most important thing for us is to nab the suspect, and to make sure we don't jeopardize a future trial. I'd have a lot of trouble, as a father, to sleep if that happened."

A party spokesman told CBC News the package was brought to Prime Minister Stephen Harper's campaign manager Jenni Byrne. She examined the package after it was opened, he said, but called police when she saw the blood and smelled the odour.

"Conservative Party staff are very upset and disturbed by what happened yesterday. It was such a horrible odour I'm sure many of us will never forget it," said Fred DeLorey, director of communications for the party.

The hazardous materials unit was called in and the coroner soon confirmed the package contained a human foot that was somewhat decomposed.

While investigating the foot, police found a second body part in a package at a Canada Post terminal at Riverside and Alta Vista drives in south Ottawa.

Major Crimes Staff Sgt. Bruce Pirt said the foot was delivered through Canada Post and conceded it is possible it was sent as a "gruesome message".

The foot was decomposing, Pirt added, but he would not say whether the foot belonged to a male or female.
Public safety minister reacts

The grisly discoveries in Ottawa and Montreal continued to garner reaction on Parliament Hill Wednesday as questions surround the circumstances of the body parts.

"It's certainly an unusual development and it's not even insofar as homicides go. It's quite an unusual circumstance," said Public Safety Minister Vic Toews.

Liberal MP Justin Trudeau also commented by saying "there's someone sick out there." He also said constituents in his Montreal riding of Papineau are worried about their safety.

Ottawa police have added there could be more body parts in the mail but it is unlikely they are in Ottawa.

Thank you, Ron. I guess I am naive. In Florida when a body is found, it's usually the product of a boating mishap or outright murder.

I never fathomed there could be so many naval mishaps.
