Ab I disagree, politically people have made gains against big business, sadly since the 80's most evidence of that is gone, which also shows that Politics can serve the interests of big business, economically effecting massive and fundamental changes to the way Britain operates in less than 20years, completely infiltrating british politics, media, industry, and currently looking to further attack public services in line with Global Free Trade Agreements.

I would say in Britain Socialist governments have never gone far enough, they certainly never went as far as Thatcher's Government went in the 70's and 80's or Blairs Centrist New Labour went in the 90's and 00's.

A big part of that is down to the change in business structure that has occurred globally.
For the UK to remain competitive it has to now increase hours, lower pay etc etc.
Its inevitable tbh and all part of the technological unemployment that's happened since computers arrived on the scene, which roughly coincides with thatchers era.
Its certainly possible for wealth to be spread around a bit better but thats not going to happen with plc's.
The western paradigm if you want to use that word is basically peaking and beginning its inevitable decline.
Its gonna hurt.

K-Bone, why would it have to be such a huge leap would you vote for a party who's manifesto included essential steps to reaching that situation?

I never said I wouldn't consider that. Depends on what their manifesto is. What's in the "fine print"?

the fine print is compulsory nudity on a tuesday. :moon:

What would a political party have to have on their manifesto to convince you to vote for them?

Manifesto`s are good as a mission statement assuming they are followed. We all know that is not necessarily the case of course. I also would point out however that saying you will bring about world peace is one thing and you might really want to do that but to actually make good on your promise is a total other matter. Sure there is an argument that says they will tell you whatever you want to hear just to get in power. We have politics that are decided by money and so we are in a shitty situation and that is tough to deal with.

I have much of my life been of the opinion that voting is really a waste of time. Having said that I am also against apathy. Then again I am not so ignorant to think that voting is the end of anything. I seem to recall hearing Obama himself saying, whilst on the campaign trail, that voters had to make sure he kept his promises or something to that effect.

Back to the question though:

My main concerns are hard to define briefly. I care a lot as the classic Faith No More song might say although I am serious and not being satirical when I say it. I care about the economy because the economy relates to so many other problems such as crime and health. I care about foreign policy and domestic policies too. I think anybody running for office needs to be realistic about the problems and tasks at hand and not bullshit.

A lot of truthers like Ron Paul which is great but if you make government small and keep business big then all you do is make business bigger. So it is important to be aware that we have a loaded deck and so I would want to see that redressed.

Having rambled on I would say that to get my vote you need to just not be as bad as the other guy appears to be. Sad but true.

Also as a union member who truly believes in the importance of collective bargaining in an unfair world I would want a candidate who supported that right and certainly not somebody who wanted to take it away.

I could continue musing on this topic all night but I won`t

Now back on subject - a political party would need to have lie-detector tests whilst presenting their manifesto before I'd consider voting for them.

I won't be voting again any time soon. Really doesn't matter what's in the manifesto, does it?

This is so true. I had this "theory" I developed about politics back in school(The Milkshake Machine Theory).

In Elementary school, whoever was running for Class President would promise a pizza or ice cream party to the students if they won. I don't ever recall having a pizza party(or ice cream)!

In Middle School, all the "candidates" promised to get a milkshake machine for the lunchroom...of course, we did not get a fucking milkshake machine! :toetap:

That's when I first learned to distrust politicians. They were groomed to be lying, thieving scumbags. :pissed:

Somebody get this woman a chuffin' milkshake/ice cream!!

She has milk-related 'issues', I reckon. :D

I dont vote, but if there was a political party that said they would bring in a public bank that would cover all the cost of government expenditure and would charge NO interest, then yes, I'd vote.

It's all a bit of a fantasy, cause there is always some type of disclaimer they will have on their platform that would suck.

Lets see... "Dear Sahara, once I assume office, I will turn over control of the nation and military to use at your disposable, signed *insert signature of party*"
:chuckle:

I would have voted for Ron Paul, by everything I saw on him he would have been my choice. Constitutionalists, give me money for homeschooling my son so I could actually afford to buy things needed to school him...that sort of thing.
But a real party, IMO, would have to be of a mindset of "less government involvement"; "less security measures"; "alternative health care including homeopathic, midwifery, etc..."; "less gun bans"; "less oversight by political standings and more oversight by the general public"; "free housing for the homeless"; "community gardens"; "no more wars"; the whole shebang basically and they'd have my full support.

Until there is a candidate worth voting for, I am going to be writing in myself on the ballets or not voting at all.

Its called the libertarian party, apparently they do exist although most americans have never heard of them.
They also don't need approval from the GOP etc.

Unlike you to be so understated andy ;)

Bluster, strawmen, inaccuracy, spin, blah blah blah, topped off with one nearly worthy comment about the stupidity of voting for the clowns.

Agreed.

I don't concur with everything he says in all his vids, but most are spot on imo. And he's honest, has the courage of his convictions...isn't afraid to voice his opinions even though he knows they make him extremely unpopular in some quarters.

And the authoritarian zealots and the idiot authoritarian following voting scum zealots of course :P
