President Barack Obama defeats Romney to win re-election
President Barack Obama has been re-elected to a second term, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney.
America's first black president secured the 270 votes in the electoral college needed to win the race.
In his victory speech before supporters in Chicago, Mr Obama said he would talk to Mr Romney about "where we can work together to move this country forward".
Mr Obama prevailed despite lingering dissatisfaction with the economy and a hard-fought challenge by Mr Romney.
His Democrats also retained their majority in the Senate, which they have held since 2007, while Republicans kept control of the House.

Out of the two options, this was marginally better. At least Obama has to pretend to be a reasonable person. Romney had all the completely insane PNAC people and neo-cons behind him. At least with Obama he has to placate the people who (stupidly) support the Democrats.

It makes fuck all difference in practical terms, but I really didn't want to see a Romney presidency, I'm 100% certain there would have been an attack on Syria / Iran within weeks. There are a lot of rank and file Democrats who don't want to attack Iran, so it will certainly take more time for Obama to instigate such an attack.

I'm sure they'll find a way to do it sooner or later in this term, though.

During his AIPAC address you definately got the impression that Mitt was gonna bomb Iran on his first day. Like you said either way there'll be more war to come.

and arnold can't run, he's not american, unless he gets someone to forge some papers for him like obama did, and gets rid of his accent and hope the world forgets. too bad though, might like having the terminator in for the president...would have loved to have that wrestler that was a MN governor in as president too (his name escapes me at the moment).

I am glad Obama won the election. I think things are getting better. I know this is an unpopular view here and maybe that is the plan but I am glad that he won. No he is not perfect no the system isn't either but at least things have improved.

With Mitt running against Barry there was only going to be one winner.

Only people who are either minted or bigoted would vote for Romney. To have him as the candidate was proof of just how stupid the whole political dance is......IMO. :)

Yeah I agree glad this was the outcome, it's a shame the House of Reps is still dominated by Middle aged rich white republicans though.
