The corporation has been making up to £25m a year through the little-known loophole, which has been condemned as "unfair" and a "rip off".

Any viewer buying a TV licence for the first time is charged £145.50 for a year-long permit.

But under current arrangements, the new licence expires 12 months from the first day of the month in which it is purchased. This means that an ‘annual’ licence bought on April 30 2012 will actually run out at midnight on March 31 2013.

Licence fee payers have complained that the payment quirk means they are getting as little as 11 months’ worth of licence when they have paid for a full year.

One licence fee payer, who contacted The Daily Telegraph but asked not to be named, said that the BBC was being “underhand”.

Lets face it if you pay for a tv licence your very much asleep

Ive never bought a tv licence in my life.

At one flat i had the tv enforcement officer used to come every few weeks and come out with the same line .I used to always say ive got no tv now go away .He used to tell me he had to come in and check .I responded with how can you come in without a search warrant? He tells me he can get one and goes away.

Few weeks later he knocks on my door again and asks whats my name again? I tell him thats confidential . Now unless you got a search warrant go away.

Now when they come i open door say good bye and close the door. They havent come back for last couple of years now.


Is there anyone on this forum who pays for a tv licence?
