Some of you may have heard about the legionnaires outbreak in Edinburgh.

The area affected in bang on my doorstep :couch:

It is dissappointing how this is being handled as it widely believed that the source of the outbreak is known but being kept quiet for 'business' reasons.
The suspected culprit is a brewery who, surprise surpise, announced yesterday that they plan to invest £1bn in Scotland. I can't help but wonder if this is coincedence?

The worrying thing is that the dates of continmenation mean that the area was exposed during the Scottish FA cup victory parade meaning that 10,000's of people were partying in the street. You couldn't have picked a busier time if you tried!

We will apparently be receiving advice leaflets today...woohoo ... that makes everything better

I hope they don't cover up the culprit as this sort of thing can be easily prevented

Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

The Indie has an article about it -says 24 people got it, 27 suspected.

It looks like cooling towers are going to get blamed.
Most outdoor outbreaks of Legionnaires' are linked to cooling towers, and Ms Sturgeon said action was taken on the Sunday night and Monday to treat these.

Cooling towers at four sites in the area were "shock dosed" with chemicals to treat bacterial growth, Ms Sturgeon said.

But she added that she had been told last night that some of the towers may need further treatment.

The Health Secretary said discussions were taking place between the City of Edinburgh Council and the Health and Safety Executive to determine what, if any, further treatment is considered appropriate.

She also said that over the last two days a further three towers in two different sites had also been tested and treated.

Ms Sturgeon said confirming the source of the outbreak was a "central priority" but it was "an extremely complicated process".

Testing and analysis was taking place, with Ms Sturgeon telling MSPs: "We hope that they will begin to provide more specific answers about the source of the infection over the next few days.

"It is not always possible to conclusively determine the precise source of an outbreak."

In such cases, conclusions had to be reached about the source on the basis of the balance of probabilities.

"Every effort is being made to investigate the potential source of this outbreak.

Thanks Mandy. I hadn't heard about it either until yesterday Thoreau and I'm in the middle of it..I must live in a bubble

Yes it is likely to be cooling towers, the latest is the Scottish government are saying the cause may never be known!

Sounds like them and Diago have done a deal....you bung £1bn into the economy and we won't tell on you!!

A friend who works up at the infirmary has said there are more cases being treated than are public.

I am disgusted at the way it looks like the culprit will not be named publicly, nor have they been asked to close for intense cleaning.
If they followed the guidelines to begin with this never would have happened.

2 out of the 4 companies under scrutiny immediately came forward with statements and proof of their own safty procedures, 2 didn't and out of those 2 one is a bit outside of the effected area so it's unlikely to have orginated there.

The swine flu panic never bothered me but I will admit I'm a bit worried, not overly so but it's still worrying

Oh and another company based in Fife has come forward and offered testing kits that can detect Legionnaires within 25 mins on water and in people and they have been turned down and told their kits are not sophiscated enough yet they are worldwide suppliers?

Second death.

This is a guy is a friend of mine

And he did not have 'underlying health problems'

I know the whole thing is probably of no interest to anyone not living here but the thing that pisses me right off is they know the source, but because of the deal to invest in the Scottish economy they never be named pubilcally .

2 needless deaths and many more still seriously ill in hospital just because some brewery cut corners with it's cleanliness .

They should be named and shamed and fined and be made to give a public apology
