Full on! Rock and roll!
Cheers for the picture of a pile of puke, Hex :barfonu:
I can't belive the difference with your mirror snare, it looked lovely plain birch but now it's stunning :)

Haha, the puke dude... Poor him. I really like that guy, he's really awesome. Likes to drink too fast though. But I like the guys dedication, he comes to see US in a town he has never even been before, with no money, no place to stay and no back up plan. A true fan, at least there's one of them. :larf:

Oh yes, the snare drum is bit shiny now. :D The plain birch would be nice too, its kind of mellow and traditional looking, fits with anything. But the mirror chrome finish is so over the top it kills posers in next town in their sleep. I'm very pleased on how the whole project went, there's few little things I could have done better, but over all it went very nicely... And now I know which things to improve next time. I know there will be next time.

New video is up! After fuckton of trouble with malfunctioning equipment, general brainfarting and being dumb and freezing to death after the temperature outside fell under -20 during the recording... That's the price to pay for playing Immortal. Loki will come over to possess your computer, mixer, mics, camera and generally cause havoc. But despite the best effort the demons from Blashyrkh put into it, I made it finally and made it quite darn well too, I have never managed to make such a clear and powerful mix using only three mics and few sample tracks coupled with my humble knowledge of studio magic. (SPACE BANDIT, this is the sound quality I'm able to produce at the moment!)

Anyway, there's me even actually talking, too long intro, too long song, mistakes and I even hit my nose during the ending. It really hurt. But I guess its the price to pay for doing this line of most ungrateful work out there. Have fun and play it LOUD. :D

Brilliant Hex I enjoyed that!
It amazes me that drummers are able to remember something so complex and detailed, and be able to process that into hitting the right drums in the right sequence really quickly. Tis a great skill. I can just about hold a very basic slow beat together with a kick, snare & hi-hat. :D

Thanks. :D There's ton of muscle memory in it.... The thing that has helped me the most is practicing lot of rudiments, when the building blocks of drumming are in the spine, its very easy to conjure up what ever basic patterns you want, the tricky part in heavy metal is to maintain speed, endurance and POWER at the same time, the drumming itself is often quite simplistic in comparison to some more complex styles.

The original drumtrack on the video is bit more simple than what I did, I spiced up few parts a bit to try to keep it interesting... The song is actually bit too long for a youtube video. Next one's gonna be a short classic rock 'n roll thing. Not more than three minutes, I promise. :chuckle:

Faw days ago I had a very special night... Very odd night, kind of which I get rarely.

In a dream, I somehow came up with a topic, name and lyrics for the chorus for our new song... And the dream actually woke me up, something told me that I need to wake up to write that stuff down and so I did. When I got up and sat down here to type, listening to our new song on continuous repeat, the lyrics just came and soon the song was done. This is weird as I rarely write lyrics alone, often we get together, decide a topic and then get on to make something from what ever ideas we might have. Often our vocalist already has something thought out about the arrangement even before we have any lyrics written down. This time, he had nothing thought out and to my surprise, everybody seemed to be fine with my lyrics. Feels damn strange, I rarely write lyrics like that and everyone seems to like it. I even have ideas on how to sing all that shit, no idea about melodies but that's our vocalist's business anyway.

The song is quite short, really rockin' kind, very lively with some fast parts and so on... The lyrics are quite grim. The song's name will be Volatile Juvenile and its about child soldiers and how militarized, political islam is using the most innocent as its pawns. its something that pisses me off on personal level very much, specially in today's world where political correctness and liberal morons reign supreme. You can't say these things out loud anymore. So through music is the way. Its quite typical fro thrash metal actually, political narrative and critique of the dark sides of the world are part and parcel with thrash metal... But the reason why I came up with this is personal. I find nothing more offensive than child soldiers. It is so much wrong on so many levels, specially when its done in the name of "god".

Anyway, here's the lyrics, I hope someone will get offended by it. Otherwise its not effective enough.

Basking in the glow of the morning sun
By command of god he will point his gun
Strapped with C4, neck deep in propaganda
The fiery road to heaven has only just began!

Infiltrate!
Suffocate!
Devastate, exterminate!
Incarcerate!
Desecrate!
Terminate, meet your fate!

Mom's lil' sunshine scheduledfor slaughter

Kill!
Slay!
Pray!
Pray for death!

Prayers of his mother echo through his mind
Only eight years old and yet ready to die
Little executioner on his way to massacre
Lock 'n load, ready to go, send kuffar to hell!

Infiltrate!
Suffocate!
Devastate, exterminate!
Incarcerate!
Desecrate!
Terminate, meet your fate!

Volatile juvenile
Offering to allah
Sacrificed for the god
Blast away, all is gone

Instigate!
Suffocate!
Devastate, exterminate!
Incinerate!
Desecrate!
Terminate, meet your fate!

God's warrior, blind follower
Free will? No such thing
Question nothing, obey imam
Sheep of the phophet on personal Jihad

Little brown angel, beige danger
flying in bits in the glory of god
full of guilt, yet so innocent
wad of flesh hanging on crescent moon

Allah! Allah! Allah! Allahu akbar!
Allah! Allah! Allah! Allahu akbar!

Volatile Juvenile
Lil' pig o' mahdī
Die the death of Shahid
Show no mercy to kaffir

Volatile juvenile
Offering to allah
Sacrificed for the god
Blast away, all is gone
The things you leave behind, you find in front of you.

I forgot to add that I didn't even try to avoid cheesy heavy metal cliche's. And no rhymes either, it is supposed to work with the music and have kind of a rhythmic feel to it. oh the irony, I bet some rap dude would like the rhymes.

ATTENTION! You guys, you know English language better than I do, if there's grammatical errors in the lyrics, please note them out so I can make it correct... This ain't kind of song on which its a good idea to have fucked up grammar. :D We have one song which has intentional grammatical fuck-ups, the kind that Finns would easily make and it has to do with the point of the lyrics... Then there's another new song which has bit of wordplay in it, for example there's the word "conspiracy" on it which is pronounced as if cons-Piracy. That song has to do with Pokémon Go and online porn, so it kind of fits in. :chuckle:

Anyway, something fucked up with my lyrics? Help me out! I'll credit you on our next release. :yup:

EDIT:
Guys, Please give me feedback, what do you think? I would really like to have some input from you English speakers. These lyrics are supposed to have bit of shock value for some moron to get offended. The underlying meaning is that I feel so sorry for kids who are victims of barbaric dogma and political religion. The lyrics could also be about any soldiers in any army actually as all armies use "kids" anyway...

Damn. I just came home from rehearsal... We did demo vocals for the new song. My lyrics and arrangement ended up being used almost exactly the way I thought it out and it works like a charm! Our vocalist made some melodies which isn't really my territory and he had some fantastic ideas how to improve the arrangement further. This one is made for live situation for sure! :D

It's wonderful seeing you post your work again, Hex. I had no idea drumming could be dangerous - I want you in full Health'n'Safety gear from now on, including face shield. Your lyrics are perfectly fine and convey the message and mood you want them to, which showed in rehearsals tonight. Well done! :)

Ooo, meant to say: I like the talking intro - more please; but can live without technicolour vomit :D

Oh hell yes It sure can! :D I have once hit my eye like that, I thought I lost it as for few seconds I couldn't see with that eye, nothing, just grey'ish blur with lots of stars and comets. Very unpleasant. It would be funny to play drums in say full hockey gear? :chuckle:

The lyrics are written in kind of old school rock 'n roll fashion, its more about rhythm and a statement than a story. On its own it doesn't look that good IMO, but works very well with music. It depends on the song, some songs we have are more like a story.... The reason why I picked the topic is that we already have some songs which heavily critique weaponized religion and I think the biggest wrong is done to the children who usually suffer the most in all conflicts, no matter what it is and how it happens. And fuck ISIS. It doesn't matter who's creation those mother fuckers are, they're sure gathered a following of bloodthirsty idiots to tow the line. Anyone who bans recreational music and musical instruments is on my lyrical hit list. I'm hoping that this song would cause some sort of reaction, its very difficult to shock anyone with heavy metal anymore, but this stuff might be just volatile enough.

And the spoken intros, I think I'll start doing more of those. People who go look at videos on screwtube always go after a character anyway. I haven't done that to not jump the trend train and I thought it wouldn't be all that interesting because I'm all about music I do, not my face and my voice, unless its a vocal cover. :D But I think I'll do more of those. It would make things easier as I could quickly explain things I normally write in the description.

Haha. You need one of those face masks Gladiator wore in the arena for a time, with nose shield and eye protection - but a Viking-esque version. :D

Frankly, song lyrics aren't really meant to be "grammatically correct", Hex. They're full of slang, split infinitives, switches of tense. double and triple negatives and suchlike. It makes them sound more "street". So don't worry about that. The main thing is that they convey the message and attitude, and fit with the music - which you were pleased to find your song did in the performance. Success!

And the talking intro just adds a personal touch for those viewing the video, which is good and draws the viewer closer. I suppose it's much the same as is done on stage when introducing the next song. Good approach. :)

 Thanks.

By the way, I'm surprised that there has not been much controversy about our lyrical themes so far... Because nearly every song has something that can trigger people. Politically incorrect stuff, kind of things which can be interpreted in many ways and quite a lot of cultural and political critique which is usually expressed in classic thrash metal way, meaning its in your face lyrical beating which can make people very angry if they know what its about.

In a way I actually wish for that, heavy music is not effective if it doesn't annoy someone. I can already hear in my mind the accusations of racism and islamophobia and all that trendy bullshite. :villagers: The world has gone completely bonkers, I blame social media and conditioning to stupidity, nobody can take anything today without getting offended. New-speak, political correctness, thought crime, so called "hate speech" which I think is a bullshit invention to shut people up... That's the windmill our lyrical concepts fight against. So far, nobody notices. But thrash metal scene loves it. :norty:

New video is up. A Finnish rock 'n roll classic this time.

I played some Hurriganes and ape'd Remu Aaltonen (drums & vocals) even though this kind of rock 'n roll isn't musically very interesting. Straight 4/4 all the way. Its been slightly over forty years since the release of this album and nearly thirty years since I listened to it for the first time. This album is what started my interest in rock music and later heavy metal so its an important album for me. And its fun to play something straight and simple and lipsync Remu's Rock-esperanto. He doesn't speak english, some of the lyrics are his rock 'n roll mumbo jumbo, some are actual English but he has basically invented his own way of pronouncing stuff so it often doesn't make sense. It worked on Finnish audience like a charm. Remu was never a musical genius in a conventional way, but he's probably the only musician in Finnish rock history who invented his own language. :chuckle:

Very good! And very interesting about Remu inventing his own language to sing in.... but he is not alone on planet earth! To reference Gladiator again (when don't I when I get the chance? :D ) the theme song is performed by the singer Lisa Gerrard, who used to be with Dead Can Dance until they disbanded. Around the age of 12, she invented her own language because she believed her god would understand what she was saying better, and she sings in that language whenever she performs those songs she has written the "lyrics" for (not covers of other people's songs, obviously). So, when you hear her singing in a "foreign language", it's entirely made up.

For example/s!
