I'm not really qualified to comment, I tried learning that track a few years back and had to give up just after the intro :D
But, I've never heard Vai play it that sloppily! Ever!
But, neither have I ever heard him play it with anything like that 'attitude' and for me attitude wins over technical cleanliness every time. So I agree, better than the original :)
