Self-sufficiency is the state of not requiring any aid, support, or interaction, for survival; it is therefore a type of personal or collective autonomy. The term self-sufficiency is usually applied to varieties of sustainable living in which nothing is consumed outside of what is produced by the self-sufficient individuals. Examples of attempts at self-sufficiency include simple living, homesteading, off-the-grid, survivalism, DIY ethic and the back-to-the-land movement. Practices that enable or aid self-sufficiency include autonomous building, permaculture, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy. The term is also applied to limited forms of self-sufficiency, for example growing one's own food or becoming economically independent of state subsidies. OK, so I've found a compostor deep in the garden, no compost in it. Dragged it up to where I'll be planting.

Anyway, I'm starting composting; veg and fruit waste, egg shells, tea & coffee are what I've been told so far.

Tea bags ok or loose tea only?
Does it matter if there are seeds in the fruit n veg waste?
Should I throw the weeds I pull out in there?

And is it true about piss?

Cheers and bookmarked.

The fact they felt the need to state "no disposable nappies" is a bit.....

Just one question it doesn't answer...fruit n veg seeds?

I wouldn't worry too much about them tbh. Heck if a few ickle toms come up and you spot them there'd be no harm in finding a home for them. You'll be amazed just how hot a compost heap gets though and this will do for most things.

don't compost anything too "woody"-it'll take forever to break down.

Yes, pissing on your compost is a great activator. Lonewolf is correct about the woody stuff, and don't worry about the seeds.

Happy gardening, I shall expect lovely fresh produce next year ;)

I once chucked some past it spuds in my compost & they spritted & produced a lovely crop. I've not read Dub's link coz am on phone, but if you put a lot of stuff in that goes wet & slimey, like cut grass, you can balance the texture with ripped up cardboard.
