I have many comments I could make about it, but it would be interesting to hear other people's observations first.

Europe in flames, tanks, missiles, bombs...How come there was football in this war ad?

I'd probably have to know the whole politics deal to get the most out of the ad. Political stuff isn't my cup of tea.

It looks like the usual East Vs West thing with the lion and the big winged reptile/bird thing going at it.
A thumbed nose to people in the know? From one set of politicians to the other?

Actually no such war will be required, the Chinese will be able to walk in and buy everything up (they already are doing so, particularly in Greece). For me this is simply a very crude piece of propaganda suggesting that the heoric China will triumph over the imploding Europe. It's hard to intepret precisely, as I don't speak Chinese! However, if you note at the very start of the video, you see numerous famous landmarks, the Colosseum and Big Ben are among them, having been destroyed. Europe is in flames. And then you see the trophy for the forthcoming tournament in the middle of this. So I really see this as placing the tournament in the context of Europe imploding. The stuff that we've seen in Greece will be reported very differently in China; as bad as our media can be theirs is pure propaganda. I think all the troops you see in the video are not supposed to be Chinese troops, they are European forces quelling rebellion amongst the people. I'm sure it is also being implied that some of the explosions and such like are acts of terrorism not war. They also seem to be trying to place these events in some sort of WWII / Russian Revolution historical context (although I don't remember automated robots like the ones in Avatar participating in either of these events!).

I don't think it would be a very effective form of propaganda were the Chinese people to be told that the Chinese military is going to bomb the crap out of Western Europe! On the other hand, I could have utterly misinterpreted it, as I am completely reliant on the visual images!

It's a nuts ad really. I mean some peeps have worked hard on it Why couldn't they have just had a few clips of European Footie Stars scoring goals and stuff? That's what a normal ad for the tournament would look like.

I don't think you're misinterpreting it WUB, it clearly shows Europe in tatters, and like I said the LIon and the bird thing facing off against each other, East vs West?

Maybe they think Europe will destroy itself and they'll swoop in like Hyenas to pick over the carcass

Or maybe a military regime just can't help being military. They'd probably shove some bombs and planes into a coffee ad

EDIT: Swoop in like Vultures probably sounds better than Hyenas Do Hyenas swoop?

This "ad" is like something from Fallout series... Hmph. It reminds me of some soviet russian propaganda, the song is just like soviet stuff from 1940's/1950's.

I will not specualte about what this really is about, except to re-enforce the "chinese superiority" mentality maybe?

Bit of an epic propaganda fail to use adaptations of Chopin, (Polish) and The Red Army Choir's 'The Russian Revolution' to proclaim Chinese superiority.

I doubt very much it's a Chinese foreign policy statement though.
I agree with the opinion that they will just wait, then buy up Europe in the bankruptcy sales.
