How to add a poll.

If you look at the tool bar at the top of the text editor there is an icon of a graph with red, blue and green bars, it's to the right of the insert image and link icons - if polls are enabled in the particular forum section where you're adding the poll.

Clicking on the icon will open a new pane with a field to enter the title of your poll. After entering the title click on the plus symbol and new set of fields open where you can set the end date of the poll and enter the voting options.

To set the life time of the poll click on the calendar icon and select the required end date.

Enter the poll options you require. By default you're given two additional fields. If you would like to add more options to your poll click the green plus icon. An extra field will be added for you to enter another option. The maximum number of options available is currently set at 10 per poll.

Users have one vote per poll and the user name of participants will be listed as part of the poll results.

Finally enter any additional text to support your poll in the main text entry area.

Save, Job done.

If you need to edit your poll after you post it you can simply edit the post and click on the poll icon, and make the required changed. This will need to be done before the user edit widow times out. If you need something changed after that period please contact a mod who can make the changes for you.

Participant Note:

If you cast a vote in a poll and later change your opinion you may go back and change your vote using the option provided. Your user name will be listed in the poll results and you have one vote per poll.

So here we are, you put a question out there and get 7 answers. How will this effect the
"community vote" if you want to go down that route.

I guess the choice would be in favor of the majority vote of those who actually voted. The assumption being that those who didn't vote don't give a shit. So the decision would be settled by those who do give a shit. The point being there is a opportunity to have a say or not, that's up to the individual members.

If there needed to be a 2/3 majority of the total membership required to ratify a vote for example, then the situation would be somewhat different. The method of posing the question would probably need to be done differently to a thread poll. We have a system in place to cater for that as mentioned in another thread.
