So a few people have asked how to do this, hence this sticky post.

Press the black tab 'Profile' in the forum menu to get to your profile page.

On your profile page, you will see a blue bar running across the screen, which says "Profile for (your username)" in white letters.

Follow this blue bar to the right of screen and you will see a blue and white 'Edit' button, press that and you are now in the profile edit area. Here you can change some of your details, password, signature, avatar, add contact information such as messenger and skype etc in the applicable fields if you wish, and also add personal text of your choice which will then appear under your avatar in all of your posts.

All new members will notice they already have an avatar displayed under their username in posts, this is the forum default avatar and is the same for everybody, it wont change until you edit your profile and upload one of your choice.

I know this is trivial, but why doesn't my avatar animate like a GIF should?

Still no cigar.

To make it work it may need to be uploaded by an admin.. I think you need a working 150 wide gif.

Then in Space Bandits case it has to be named avatar176_2014-03-25.gif and uploaded to where the avatars are on the server which is here for the avatars we see in threads next to posts sanctumzone.co.uk/media/kunena/avatars/r...d/size150x300/users/

I think it may not be working because my understanding is that avatars uploaded in the regular way are uploaded to a seperate folder than where the image is eventually pulled from.

The forum then makes/generates resized copies for all the different sizes required for the forum and puts them in other relevant folders (eg the av that displays here on threads is the size150x300 folder. Smaller av's appear when you press reply and so on, so theres more folders.)

When the forum generates the copies, perhaps some gifs lose their 'gifness'
