CHLOE, I can sympathize completely with your issues. I'm taking my laptop to the tech today to figure out the 'no wireless' issue.
Seriously, sometimes I feel like this state is a smothering prison cell that does not permit any sort of ideas - no internet, no job unless you are military or related to the military, (you can always drive 80 miles south to Austin to look for a job - really?!), you can't take a college course unless you are a resident for 12 months (state law says 6 months, colleges have their own rules, otherwise pay $200 out of state fee), no vo-techs, no high school- night courses (you must go to the local college which has a contract with the military), few night classes at the local college that want to charge me 'out of area fee' (despite they are online globally via their military contract) despite the main campus rests upon both Bell and Coryell counties (I live in Lampasas County, right next door and they still want to charge over $100 out of county fee), can't take phlebotomy class unless you have one year's medical experience (there's no jobs!) , the internet is not an option for learning as......did I mention it doesn't always work out here? Boil water notices every few weeks. Brown water. Stinky water. Wild fires. $60 for a carton of cigarettes. Liquor stores closed on Sundays and national holidays, no back up system when the community water pump goes down, towns literally running out of water and having it trucked in, many empty store fronts, cops out to give anybody a ticket for the most obscure infraction. Goats, what's up with the goats thing? There's no goat meat in stores and yet goat ranchers are angry that Australia is flooding the market with their goat meat.....where??!!! Heat so oppressive that chickens do not lay. Dirt so hard that it must be pick axed and then shoveled away, reports that the state is going to run out of electricity AGAIN during the summer and rolling black outs will be implemented.
Who left the East, selling all that they had to buy a wagon and supplies, traveling thousands of miles only to come upon this area and decide it was some sort of utopia? Seriously? The cracks in the earth cause cows to break their legs, the grass can not be mowed by regular blades as it is so tough, water is always in short supply. Rain is rare, what few vegetables grow here are small. Juniper, cedar and mesquite all over causing allergies in otherwise healthy people............
Everything is tan or off-white, they don't believe in color out here.
But the land is cheap to buy, and no wonder.
Sorry, had to get that of my chest. I personally offer apologies to my very dearest friend who hails from this area. I've blown it, I know.
Maybe Dallas, Austin or Houston do not have these issues, I don't know.
