On account of the result already looking like a one sided under 10's football score, im turning it off.

Should the result turn somehow I can bring it back.

I have not seen anybody squealing like a stuck pig over it to be honest. Also you could argue that karma points could be used to bully. Yes it is just a forum on the Internet but I think the point of the question was to get an idea of how people view the feature. There are other forums without this feature after all. It isn't a huge important topic just like "do you want ice in your drink" kind of thing.

My points were to offer a different opinion (looking at the whole picture).

I think you will find that the reply or new topic button is the preferred weapon of bullies who are often connected to clique activity because bullies don't perform without backup.

If someone has said some thing some one thinks is BS and gives a minus surely that is down to them. Why would they need to announce it? How is sneaky good karma any different to sneaky bad Karma.

No, I think I raised elsewhere, here, that I think it's legitimate to express your disapproval by using the minus, without posting, if you don't wish to get dragged into a tedious battle. Personally (though others disagree) that doesn't bother me.

I would imagine most people that would disagree would the the very people that others would rather avoid engaging.
It's purely the situations where a couple of people have thought they're victim to someone (maybe plural) running some kind of on-going grudge against them by doing it all the time that doesn't seem wholesome to me. I'm not keen on that aspect.

I guess the operative words there are 'thought they were victims', thoughts and reality are very often two entirely different things.

Removing it will work to the advantage of people who consistently post things in a style or about things others don't agree with, because there is no option available for them to indicate their disapproval, without posting and getting dragged down by the very thing they disapprove of. (That's not meant to change your mind it's just a comment on how it has an effect.)

Yes that's true, but then people can choose to not read posts by people whose opinion they find unpalatable, or to argue the points. Or they could make a comment, then back out, instead of choosing to get deeply embroiled.

What if there is no point to argue? It's kind of hard to ignore everything all of the time especially with quotes and this forum not having an ignore feature. What if someone was not happy with a posters vibe, attitude to others (bullying) etc. Most people aren't confident enough to make a comment about someone attitude and if they are they tend to become victims (hence lack of confidence) or they get sucked in to pointless rounds of nonsense.

It's gone now so it hardly matters. There are as many pros as there are cons, human nature being the single biggest flaw as with most systems.

Well, i have just noticed it is gone. I keep forgetting to give a good smite anyways, and have never given a bad smite.. ( except to oioioi who wanted his 69 pension thingy, lol.
I liked giving good smites, it was fun. .. but i did wonder why anyone would give bad ones, didnt like that.

I guess we dont really need it, even tho it was lots of fun at the time.

The thankyou button is good tho, I hope that stays. That shows appreciation of a post. :approved:

I voted no - but I notice it's gorn anyway. I think we can do without it - it's too easy to take it too seriously! I hope we keep the "thank you" button, though! :)
