BT, firstly I'm knackered so this won't be as elaborate as my thoughts on your post but a couple of points; firstly the one thing I think we value above all on SZ is honesty and accountability and, despite going about it in a slightly arse-about-face manner, your honesty and openness is certainly what got you my vote.

I can certainly relate to feeling shellshocked/angry after DIF and some lashing out is inevitable as it's surprising how deep into your psyche regular arguments with trolls/shills/NaN's/whatever presses your butttons, is then magnified by a sense of injustice from the DIF mods. Without getting into the details I'm basically a facilitator now because I came with a similar state of mind! So be warned

We may have heightened paranoia regarding socks but I promise you only policy got the plug pulled. As has been shown all forum policies are up for discussion/debate/amendment but until such a discussion/debate/amendment has been completed I facilitate according to policy and not personal opinion as much as I possibly can as this was one of my bones of contention with the DIF mods.

As far as this particular episode goes I don't personally see any reason to change current policy. Apart from a bit of forum drama it worked. As a community we acted upon agreed policy, from your part you approached the forum (via admin) to state your case, you were open and honest, you're back.

Do we need to consider a policy regarding sock accusations?

Any suspicions forward them to a Facilitator, we'll keep 'a list' out back in the smoking shed and if the facilitators feel at any point there is sufficient reason to block a sock we do so.

If a member really feels the need to 'go public' with their accusations they do so via a poll BUT if the poll doesn't agree with the accuser (2/3 of the vote after 21 votes are cast or 48hrs have passed) then they get a 3 day time out for 'time wasting'. This would prevent regular public accusations but wouldn't prevent anybody raising their concerns in a way that's more helpful to the facilitators. Socks tend to slip up when they don't suspect they are suspected!

Just a thought, feel free to rip it to shreds but I don't think us all screaming sock at the drop of a hat (I hold my hands up as much as the next person) is gonna do the forum any favours in the long run however we also have to keep our eye on the ball...collectively!
