It seems to be the done thing to dismiss all 'isms' as something that is created to divide us. Let's reclaim the 'isms'!

So, a list of 'isms' that we as a (human)race should strive for.

Pacifism
Altruism

Anarchism?

Labels are language.

The issue is not with the language. Its with the people who don't know how to use it properly.

I don't want to rain on oioioi's parade but there have been complaints that we have not been fighting enough and it might be making some people feel obnoxious.

You of all people should know that -ism is merely a Greek-derived suffix (-ισμός ) used to form abstract nouns. Most words in English are loan words from Greek and the suffix came to be more frequently used to describe theological, philosophical and finally political schools of thought. The use of the suffix to form abstract nouns to describe prejudices such as racism, sexism etcetera is very recent indeed.

What can we learn from this?

Well the first thing we can learn is that ill-informed people attempting to be "radical" by saying trite sound-bites like

"We need to get rid of the isms maaan"

haven't really thought through what they have said.

The second thing we canlearn is how to be a pedantic annoying smart-arse by answering

"We need to get rid of the isms maaan "

with "What? Like magnetism?"

And the third thing we can learn is that the school of thought that the world would be a better place without various theological, philosophical, political, sociological and supremacist schools of thought

would be called "Anti-ismism"
