A thread about "bad people" who do "bad things" and whether or not they "are just bad".
If you were to build up a syllabus on this subject with the hope of understanding what motivates individuals to commit violent sexual crimes what sources would you use?
Please post some examples or explain to me why this is a pointless exercise.

This is quite an UN-orthodox answer to the question:
"Have you ever wondered why there are so many retards in the world,Rape,Murder, pedophilia etc?"
Get's good at 4minutes
I don't think that is a very viable explanation for why Rape and Unhealthy Sexual desires seem so widespread.
I've found another extremely unlikely explanation possibly from an American Christian about why people rape:
"The rapest is perverted and sick, as well as violent. Rapests are evil and dangerous. Rape generally affects the victim permanently, and without counseling can ruin her for life.
Why do these violent perverts do it? They do not care about society's rules, decentcy, respect, God or much of anything else. It's all about them and their perverted desires. These dangerous predators need to be locked up for life - for a 1st offense, but then I'm a little biased."
"An absence of care for societies rules", I flaunt all those rules and traditions but find rape reprehensible, it's not because of what god or society requires of me, these answers are all from Yahoo answers:
Control and power. Sex is usually a secondary desire. People who are pushed to being powerless or wants to show dominion over a particular person. Which is why it is so prevalent in war. You have sexual attraction of a woman attached to power over that woman already (the soldier has a gun). He wants to prove his domination (rape).
Although this individual perhaps doesn't explain his point very well, he might have a point with the connection between psychological triggers such as heightened exposure to violence, objectification of humans/the enemy, sense of power, with the suppressed desire for sex, the suppressed means of obtaining it consensually, or feelings of lack of control "being powerless" acted out.

Unlike many other contentious social issues, such as abortion and homosexual rights, everyone has the same goal regarding rape: to end it. Evolutionary biology provides clear information that society can use to achieve that goal. Social science, by contrast, promotes erroneous solutions, because it fails to recognize that Darwinian selection has shaped not only human bodies but human psychology, learning patterns and behavior as well. The fact is that men, relative to women, are more aggressive, sexually assertive and eager to copulate, and less discriminating about mates' traits that contribute to the existence of rape. When social scientists mistakenly assert that socialization alone causes those gender differences, they ignore the fact that the same differences also exist in all the other animal species in which males offer less parental investment than females and compete for access to females.
In addressing the question of rape, the choice between the politically constructed answers of social science and the evidentiary answers of evolutionary biology is essentially a choice between ideology and knowledge. As scientists who would like to see rape eradicated from human life, we sincerely hope that truth will prevail. "
