Teachers have been encouraged to introduce pornography into the classroom, using sex education lessons to explain that porn is 'not all bad' and 'hugely diverse'.

The recommendations, included in an educational guide, suggest that teachers confront 'myths' about porn and inform children as young as five about sexualisation.

The guidance could have significant influence in British schools after the Government's decision to keep sex education lessons voluntary, leaving schools to devise their own ways of teaching the subject.
I can't read these links, but there are two more articles about this here:

Not saying it isn't worth worrying about but that is so loaded with Daily Mail rhetoric it's probably just something they heard down the pub last night.

This is wise I think.

The Fail previously did all that Kids as young as five taught about shagging!!!! bullshit.
It's actually pretty annoying that any attempt to provide sensible sex education has rags like the Fail claiming toddlers will be shoving dildos up each other's arses.

The torygraph says -

Pupils as young as 11 should be taught the dangers of “sexting” and five-year-olds should know how airbrushing in the media creates unrealistic body image expectations, it says.

Older pupils aged 14 upwards should tackle “real” and “unreal” behaviour in pornography, says the guide, which directs teachers to a list of online resources they can use in lessons.

Sounds ok to me.

Has anyone seen the actual material - it could be evil, but I'm guessing it may well just be saying adolescents should be prompted to discuss and think about porn, rather than have their hands tied to prevent onanism.
When I was 13 I was busy wanking over my stash of jazz mags. So were my mates. I remember me and one mate going through his dads collection while his folks were out - they were actually on top of the wardrobe in traditional fashion LOL. And that was before the internet was invented. I think pretending teens don't access porn would be just naive. Pretending it doesn't exist won't make it go away. And saying it's bad won't make young people not use it - your average adolescent won't be convinced they shouldn't masturbate over images. Discussing it sensibly so you can look at how it can be problematic in some contexts without telling people they'll go blind and burn in hell seems very sensible to me. It's the sexting stuff that IMO needs to be looked at as more problematic.

Sexual imagery exists. Teenagers will come across it. Best recognise that happens and deal with it in a sensible way that doesn't make them instantly switch off and think you're a Victorian time traveller.

Also, this sort of 'guidance' is often just lesson ideas people can use if they want. PHSE has a long history of being treated as a Mickey Mouse subject schools aren't arsed about - has no impact on league tables. The bigger problem is actually drug/alcohol/sex education gets short thrift in some schools.

That's why I posted the other links which I can't read. I don't know if other people can. It was reported on 5Live this morning, so I'm assuming that it's accurate.

I don't think this is a massive problem, as kids, particularly boys, will access porn. They won't take the lessons remotely seriously, and I don't think there's any danger of a Victorian attitude to sexuality today! I would just question what the motivation is for this, and whether it's appropriate to have a load of young girls in an atmosphere where they're being told that there's such a thing as good porn. For me, it's a pretty inappropriate environment to discuss it.

They are gradually hoping to have us in herds.

Subliminally teach and encourage the women to breed more and more , Then we will take those kids away from you at birth.

That's what they do with cattle

Had a quick flick through the material here www.sexeducationforum.org.uk/resources/s...onal-supplement.aspx, nothing untoward that I can see; teaching primary school kids the difference between boys and girls (already had that chat with the eldest 4 1/2) body image in advertising for 10-11 yr olds, nowt even remotely about the specifics of sex until teens.

I'm not saying the Sex Education Forum is or isn't sinister, the Daily Mail's eagerness to leap on and overstate it's aims is more of a worry for me.

The state is not our parents. Why do they feel the need to stick their noses in to everything. They can barely manage to teach 'the 3 R's' competently at some schools - now they're planning to cover pornography too?!? What next? Beastiality?

Sex and porn are hard to avoid in the modern age and so it makes sense to teach children about it so that they are informed. Children learn about this stuff whether parents teach them or not. That is the issue. We should as parents teach them and we can try our best to keep them young but it really is tough if not impossible.

So should teachers try and teach sex education based on what life was like in 1950`s or should they be aware of the times?
"Often you hear that young people are 'exposed' to pornography but what I found is that they engage with porn in a number of ways," says Bale. "They share porn for the 'yuck' factor, the humour factor and for pleasure. Some look for pornography but if a pop up appears online and they don't want to engage then they shut it down."

www.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/apr/16/need-to-talk-about-sex

I have an eleven year old step daughter and she thinks she is a grown up. She is probably far more exposed to things like this then I was at her age. She has also been exposed to shows like 16 and pregnant or whatever it is called and so she thinks about this kind of stuff whether I want or to or not.

Parents should be parents and take the responsibility but parents have different ideas about when and what to teach and the like. Over here (USA) there are usually permission slips for parents to sign because there are often objections whether it be just moral or religious.
