Hundreds of supporters and opponents of the English Defence League have marched through the centre of Manchester.
Both marches passed off relatively peacefully - with police keeping EDL supporters and their opponents, led by Unite Against Fascism, far apart as they converged on the town hall.
Greater Manchester Police said there were 15 arrests for public order offences - 12 from the EDL, three from the UAF - as both sides marched from opposite ends of the city centre.
An estimated 500-700 EDL supporters - who were bussed to and from the demonstration by police - met at Water Street inched towards Albert Square behind a police cordon.
Minor scuffles broke out between EDL supporters and police as EDL supporters tried to rush through the cordon at various points on the route, up Quay Street and Peter Street.
Meanwhile, up to 400 UAF demonstrators, including some Manchester councillors, met at Piccadilly gardens - with live music and speakers creating a carnival atmosphere - before walking to Albert Square via Portland Street and Princess Street.
Both sides stood on opposite sides of Albert Square for around two hours before the crowds dispersed.
One minor flashpoint came after the main marches had finished and UAF supporters were marching back to Piccadilly Gardens. Scuffles broke out with around 50 EDL supporters outside the Wetherspoons pub on Piccadilly Gardens before police separated the two sides using a cordon.
Dozens of drinkers were trapped inside the pub for around 30 minutes as worried bar managers closed the shutters and police formed a cordon
in front of the pub.
Police thanked most protesters for marching peacefully - as well as the general Manchester public.
TBH, we all here expected far worse.
