“Hi
I work within the dwp so please don’t use my name as it could cost me my job.
The dwp are rolling out nationally an initiative to work with 120k families whose lives are blighted by joblessness, single parents, crime and truancy. We have specially trained personnel to work closely with them to break these harmful trends and integrate them into society, improve their lives and make working the preferred options.
However what has not been released and is being kept hush hush is that these families are to achieve certain targets working with our staff and stakeholders, professional organisations which have been hand picked to get the desired results as expediently as possible. The department is investing a great deal of resources into this project and participants are to be under no illusions that equal investment and commitment are required from them. This will not be an option where families can choose not to be involved in…..if they refuse to participate, their benefits will be stripped under sanctions. If after a period of 26 weeks results are not forthcoming and improvements tangible and sustained all benefits will be withdrawn. The adults will either have to work in any position that can be found and will be paid via fuel food and basic clothing. If the children continue to truant and participate in anti social behaviour those under 13 will be taken into care and those over 13 will be expected to work under the same terms as their parents with tutors twice weekly to ensure a basic level of literacy and numeracy. They will not be living with their parents but in dormitory accommodation. Tenders have been received and a short list drawn up for the lots as with pip. Fore runners are G4S, Deloittes, Veolia, Capita and Serco
Myself and many other staff are horrified but are powerless to stop this. The govt are saying they will save more on what they cut on the benefits including DLA for the people in these families getting high rates for anger and behavioural problems, housing benefits and benefits for babies and children. Any of the parents having children throughout or once they’ve failed the initiative will be taken into the care of local authorities. The families will be allowed supervised access at contact centres as deemed acceptable by the people overseeing the project and the handlers for the individual families.
This is all underway and being arranged as we speak. The govt see these families as an absolute blight on society and one way or another are determined to get rid of them in any way they can. Their view is that support and money haven’t helped, ASBO’s are a joke and seen as a badge of honour and children whether in these families or other families on low incomes are a drain on resources and they believe if they stop paying then the children will stop being born and those already here will have to either conform or to be excluded and earn their keep. To get disability allowance for children is going to be nigh on impossible which is why the reforms haven’t targeted them, new plans are underway as the perception is that ALL children need care and parents know this before having them therefore there are only very rare circumstances where additional support is justifiable.”

Its certainly believable isn't it?
It would be the next logical step up from workfare.

Fark me that country is scary. I'm glad I got my kids out.

It would have been helpful if the person had named the scheme, although perhaps this hasn't been decided yet.

It's going to be fascinating to see Labour probably win the next election and then continue with all these schemes. How will the great unwashed justify it to themselves, and then turn up and vote for the Tories in the 2020 general election? I can't wait to find out.

www.dwp.gov.uk/policy/welfare-reform/universal-credit/
Universal Credit is a new single payment for people who are looking for work or on a low income.

Universal Credit will help claimants and their families to become more independent and will simplify the benefits system by bringing together a range of working-age benefits into a single streamlined payment. The new Universal Credit system aims to:

improve work incentives

smooth the transitions into and out of work, supporting a dynamic labour market

simplify the system, making it easier for people to understand, and easier and cheaper for staff to administer
reduce in-work poverty

cut back on fraud and error.

It will be launched in 2013 and will replace:

income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Income Support
Child Tax Credits
Working Tax Credits
Housing Benefit.
And the concept of receiving a wage for your labour.

I'm dubious. Like I think
If the children continue to truant and participate in anti social behaviour those under 13 will be taken into care and those over 13 will be expected to work under the same terms as their parents with tutors twice weekly to ensure a basic level of literacy and numeracy.

is actually illegal. Not to mention it costs a lot of money to put children into care - kinda a false economy there.

They also have no power to make a lot of other services work with them.

But even if it's bullshit,, it's still alarmingly realistic and not that far fetched. And maybe that's the point.

The next step after increasing retirement age is to decrease the minimum age to work I suppose.

I kinda meant the putting children into care business. The DWP cannot have children put into care because they feel like it.

Home tuition can already happen with children who have issues with school. But it doesn't happen all day five days a week - Local Authorities cannot hire tutors to provide full time education at home because it would cost a fucking fortune. I've known of cases where kids have anxiety issues or whatever that stop them being able to cope with school where there's been something of a battle to get them to cough up any funding for home tuition.
Most kids with persistent school behavioural issues get placed in a Pupil Referral Unit. Which is naughty kids school.

And like
They will not be living with their parents but in dormitory accommodation.

Where? This would flout the National Minimum Standards for children in care in a serious way.
www.education.gov.uk/publications/eOrder...dren%27s%20Homes.pdf
You cannot take children into care and put them in dormitories. Any Local Authority that did so (and they'd have to because the DWP cannot) would be guaranteed to lose any lawsuit anyone brought against them. And the public may be learning to hate the poor, but they're still sensitive about children.

The government may be shower of bastards, but I doubt they're about to totally lose the plot.

I also think the whole premise of forcing whole families onto some intensive program or their benefits get stopped would be illegal as things currently stand.

I think it's bullshit. But it's bullshit that manages to sound kinda plausible because the blunt fact is it's not totally way out in what it's saying insofar as it's the kind of mad idea they do actually have IIRC mental case at large IDS seriously wanted to shunt entire families round the country to move them out of deprived areas - whether they wanted to move or not. This e-mail may not be true, but plenty of them would certainly like it to be. Particularly that bit about vouchers instead of cash which is an idea that I think has certainly has been talked about.

I like the way you think and reason it out DM.
Unfortunately given the actions I've personally witnessed of the SS (not the DWP) and politicians I have personally known not to mention the downright ignorance and apathy on the streets, something akin to the above is quite possible.

You need only remove the bit about taking kids into care and it becomes very likely.

I hope you are right though. ;)

Fer Gawd's sake!

I've been on the DIFs for the past couple of days ( :emb: ) and saw a thread about this posted earlier.... and already a load of them are in a right panic over "their children being taken off them". :D

The thing hasn't even been verified as "true" yet. I personally suspect it is either Cameron or Osbourne sending it out to rattle the already rattled sick and unemployed.

Reading the DIF thread, it made me think how many of the posters there are just aching to find stuff that they can fret and stress about - they must be addicted to the chemicals that flood their brains and bodies in those states and NEED terrifying agitation on a regular basis.

As if anyone even COULD start taking away children in such numbers, for such reasons..... :conf: What a load of shite gets taken for "truth" these days! It's incredibly disheartening to see how many people just let themselves be put into a tailspin about things like this in pursuit of the Dark Adventure they so enjoy. The tories are not going to be in power that long; and even if they were they don't have that kind of power.

They - and any of them - have the kind of power WE let them have.

Maybe it actually takes us having our children snatched from us before we'll actually get up off our big fat lily-whites and DO something about the whole damned mess, instead of sitting around thinking how lucky it is that "it's them, not us".

:)

ETA : Serves me right for going onto the DIFs :D
