A 14-year-old girl has been found dead at a house where a number of dogs were "out of control".

Jade Anderson's body was discovered by police at a property in Atherton, near Wigan, at about 14:00 GMT after someone saw the girl unconscious in the house.

Police have not established the cause of death but said her injuries were "consistent with having been attacked by dogs". Four of the dogs were killed.

Jade did not live at the Chaucer Grove home and was thought to be visiting.

Greater Manchester Police said four dogs described as "aggressive and out of control" had since been put down.

Early indications were two of the dogs put down were bull mastiffs and two may be Staffordshire bull terriers, officers said.

People may not agree with me but I think it maybe good to bring back dog licences. If you see a dangerous dog look at the owner ;)

I agree and some dog charities castrate the dogs as well, saves lots of unwanted dogs running around...but yes 9 times out of 10..look the owners way...

Poor Girl RIP.

Poor little girl indeed. RIP, and may her family get a huge amount of support and love right now.

I know this might be unpopular to say, but some dogs were not actually bred to be pets and never will be. Mastiffs and Bull Terriers (terrorizers, it's an old English word) are such dogs.

It sickened me to my stomach to see the photo of that lovely girl's pretty face and have to think of her ending. :( If you have EVER seen a Staffie "go", you'll know what I mean.

Maybe 18 years ago now, my darling retriever was attacked by a Staffie that she had played with every day for over two years. Neither she nor I ever had a worry about it. And, the day she was attacked, I saw it running toward her and gave it not a thought - until it literally ran up along her back and took her entire head in its mouth.

It's hard to explain, but when they "go", their mouths somehow become bigger than the dog itself. I kept having flash-backs of it for a time after and remember being amazed that I hadn't seen right down into its gut, it had opened its mouth that wide. I couldn't do anything to help her or get it off - no more could its owner, the fool; but I did keep battering at it with a quartered horse leading rope. That had a huge metal clip on it and, bashing it onver the head repeatedly, I still didn't even make the thing BLINK. I am not exaggerating. My dog had to have her face sewn up from under her nose to right round the back of her neck - from ONE bite into her by a dog less than half her size.

I still fear them coming near my little Springer to this day.

My neice kept one for four years; and then she got another, a pup, to grow up alongside the older one. When the youngest one was nearly five, she came home one day to find that the older dog had killed the younger one, but had received such savage injuries in doing so that it had to be put down too. After almost five years "peacefully" together, they had effectively kiiled each other off.

Vile things. And so utterly different when they "go" from any other type of dog you can name.

If you are herding or baiting bulls, these are the dogs for you, because they will keep their grip on a bull's heel even with half their own head kicked off.

If you want a lovely pet, pass them by.

Poor young Jade. RIP. And may her family get loads of love and support.

They finally got around to passing a law here that you need to keep your dog in a yard or on a lease and that you are legally responsible for your animal, many people are such backward fucks and ignorant they let their mean animal run wild.

The hard part is proving ownership of a dog if it bites you.

A known vicious dog either should be in a locked enclosure for security reasons or put to sleep, we have had multiple incidents of dogs tearing up a child and it still gets worse.

Guy I know put a bullet in his neighbors dog head for jumping a fense killing his gentle cat

Almost any dog has the capacity to kill or maim. Even a wee Jack Russell will cause you plenty grief if it takes the fancy
I've had dogs around me my whole life and love them to bits but have to agree fully with Cantata, some creatures are literally bred for their capacity to kill, get them in that 'off moment' and disastrous trauma is 100% guaranteed.

No staffies, mastifs, rotties or doberman pinschers for example will ever share my abode.
I'm certain there would be a long line of people ready to advocate for each of those breeds, with anecdotes of character loveliness.
I'm happy for your experiences and relieved they didn't turn into nightmares.

Can I also say that I don't think licensing is the answer, unless that licence is issued as some form of dog handling proficiency acknowledgement. (with prior training and assessment sessions).
Same as we would issue a drivers licence.

Absent the above, the licence really means nothing. That was why it was abolished before.

It's horrible. A waste of a precious young life, and such a cruel and terrifying way for it to end.

But any dogs, even sweet natured ones can behave with uncharacteristic aggression when they're in a pack, with several of them together. I also wouldn't give any of the gladiator dogs (as Cesar Milan calls them) house space. It's quite common around my area for nasty, smeggy types of people to raise these killer breeds, and encourage them to be vicious. We've had a few close shaves, and I now take a car ride out of the vicinity before I let my dogs out to run in a park. And 'cause one of mine gets over-excited and yaps, I keep him on the lead anyway now, rather than risk him frightening kids.

Apparently not far from there on the site of the old pretoria pit there is a police dog handling unit and 5 minutes walk away is a medium secure psychiatric unit where patients have been known to abscond..and the place where those events took place is called poets corner, all the streets are named after poets, goodness knows why the place is rough as hell and the area is also known as Hag Fold...yes the whole area isa dump....

Social class is playing its part in the story. Can it be that Jade was the victim of her rank and environment?

and not long back in the same place just around the corner another girl /woman nearly lost their life in a house fire...someone I knew from that area (Everest Road) when I was a child lost their life in the same way....
The Pretoria Pit disaster was a mining accident that occurred on 21 December 1910, when there was an underground explosion at the Hulton Bank Colliery No. 3 Pit, known as the Pretoria Pit, in Over Hulton, Westhoughton, then in the historic county of Lancashire, in North West England. A total of 344 men lost their lives.

Just google Hag fold/Atherton chav town...
From The M6

Exit the M6 at junction 23 and get onto the A580 (East Lancashire Road) heading towards Manchester. At the roundabout continue forward.
At the fourth set of traffic lights (approx 3 miles) turn left onto the A579, sign posted Boltn.
Proceed through all the traffic lights and round abouts until you come to the final roundabout at the end of the A579.
Take the 3rd exit off the roundabout (signposted Atherton A577/Bolton A579) onto the A577 (Wigan Road). Proceed along this road until you arrive at a mini roundabout, take the 2nd exit off the mini roundabout onto Gloucester Street.
When you reach the next set of traffic lights turn left into Bag Lane and then take the 2nd right into Derby Street.
Proceed along this road passing over several mini roundabouts and speed restrictors until you pass underneath a railway bridge.
Once under the railway bridge, take your first left into Gregory Avenue, your next right into Tensing Avenue.
Everest Road is at the top of Tensing Avenue and The Spinney is immediately to your left.

By Train

Hag Fold railway station is closest and a very short walk from The Spinney and you will need board the Manchester/Victoria to Wigan/Southport line.

That's probably cuz some of the owners should be wearing the muzzles, as well as their dogs.
