It's ok if the 'intelligence' agencies share the info they have compiled about the citizenry but if the citizenry share the information it has compiled on it's intelligence agencies then that is an outrageous, scandalous, act of terrorism and we should release the hounds!

Some things never change eh?

WE TOLD YOU SO EUROPEAN NATIONS UP IN ARMS OVER NSA SPY SCANDAL.

The motion asks for any documents relating to the court’s interpretation of the scope, meaning and constitutionality of Section 215 of the Patriot Act – which authorises government to obtain “any tangible thing” relevant to foreign intelligence or terrorism investigations – to be published “as quickly as possible” and with only minimal redaction.

“In a democracy, there should be no room for secret law,” said Jameel Jaffer, ACLU deputy legal director. “The public has a right to know what limits apply to the government’s surveillance authority, and what safeguards are in place to protect individual privacy.”

There was support for Snowden among civil liberty activists. Ellsberg wrote for the Guardian: “In my estimation, there has not been in American history a more important leak than Edward Snowden’s release of NSA material – and that definitely includes the Pentagon Papers 40 years ago”.

So it seems that a large part of the reason why America has been wire tapping/hacking is for corporate espionage. :coffee:
Germany appears to be the most snooped on EU country by the US, a map of secret surveillance activities by the National Security Agency (NSA) shows. EU officials are to question their US counterparts on data snooping in Europe.
While all EU member states boast variant shades of green, Germany stands out, color-coded orange
As to why Germany appears to be the most closely surveilled country within Europe, Richter believes that may go beyond counterterrorism.

“I can only speculate. First of all, Germany is geographically situated between East and West. Historically it was always the case. On the other hand, Germany is strong economically within Europe. There may be economic reasons, not only protection from terrorists,” says Richter.

So basically spying on your ally to screw over their economy.

Who the fuck needs that sort of ally?

Washington is using "American-style Stasi methods," said Markus Ferber, a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel's Bavarian sister party and member of the European Parliament.

"I thought this era had ended when the DDR fell," he said, using the German acronym for the disposed German Democratic Republic.

Russia Considering Asylum for NSA Leaker Snowden
Posted on June 11, 2013
Putin 150x150

putin

This doesn’t seem to be a step towards more freedom. Very confusing.
Check it out:

According to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, the Russians are considering granting political asylum to Edward Snowden, the NSA whistleblower/traitor. Snowden, a government contractor, revealed the existence of a massive National Security Agency surveillance operation last week.

Kommersant daily quoted President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary as saying “If we receive such a request, we will consider it.”

Snowden was previously staying in Hong Kong, where he fled to on May 20, but has since changed his location.

Yesterday, Regina Ip, Hong Kong’s top official overseeing security said it would be in Snowden’s “best interest to leave Hong Kong.” China has an extradition treaty with the United States.

Russians are said to be good chess players.

They are playing chess and Putin is a grandmaster at this point.

But the enemy of my enemy is not my friend.

Still.

He seems, despite my misgivings, in THIS matter, to be doing the right thing.

I doubt he would be so accommodating to his own whistle-blowers, however.

I would hope Snowden wouldn't go to Russia, as he'll be equally vulnerable there. The rest of his life is going to be a living hell, realistically. I absolutely respect what he's done, I don't think many people in that position would be able to put their hands up and say that they could have done it.
The true measure of a man is not his intelligence or how high he rises in this freak establishment. The true measure of a man is this: how quickly he can respond to the needs of others and how much of himself he can give - Philip K. Dick.

He also had an offer from Iceland for Asylum.
Maybe he just says Many diffèrent places so the NSA won't be sure until he makes his final decision.

Iceland would be a serious one to consider but tbh the farthest he's going to get is an embassy like assange.
If I was him I'd already have been on a cargo ship out of HK long ago.

According to assange the best would be either Russia or South América (who have understood the US domination for years

It seems he is no longer in HK, so he must be out to somewhere.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Amendment_t..._States_Constitution

Over the last decade, courts adjudicated whether the government can access evidence of illegal activity stored on digital technology without violating the Fourth Amendment.
Many cases discuss whether incriminating evidence stored by an employee in workplace computers is protected under the reasonable expectation of privacy. In a majority of cases, employees do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy for electronic communications at work.[83] However, one federal court held that employees can assert the attorney-client privilege with respect to certain communications on company laptops.[84]
On January 30, 2007, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in United States v. Ziegler, 497 F.3d 890 reversed its earlier August 2006 decision upon a petition for rehearing. In contrast to the earlier decision, the Court acknowledged that an employee has a right to privacy in his workplace computer. The court also found that an employer can consent to searches and seizures that would otherwise be illegal.[85]
In Ziegler, an employee had viewed at work websites of child pornography. His employer noticed the conduct, made copies of the hard drive, and gave the FBI the employee's computer. At his criminal trial, Ziegler filed a motion to suppress the evidence on the ground that the government violated the Fourth Amendment rights. The Ninth Circuit allowed the lower court to admit the evidence. After reviewing the relevant Supreme Court opinions on a reasonable expectation of privacy, the court acknowledged that Ziegler had a reasonable expectation of privacy at his office and on his computer. However, the court found that the employer could consent to a government search of the computer without infringing on the Ziegler's Fourth Amendment rights.
On March 11, 2010, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit ruled, in Rehberg v. Paulk, 598 F.3d 1268, that a person does not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in an e-mail once any copy of the communication is delivered to a third party.[86]
On December 14, 2010, in United States v. Warshak, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled that a person has a reasonable expectation of privacy in his emails and that the government violated Warshak's Fourth Amendment rights by compelling his internet service provider to turn over his emails without first obtaining a warrant based upon probable cause.[87]
On January 3, 2011, in The People v. Gregory Diaz, the Supreme Court of California ruled for allowing warrantless search by the police of suspects' cell phones at the time of the arrest, on the grounds of preventing destruction of evidence such as text messages:[88]
the loss of privacy upon arrest extends beyond the arrestee's body to include “personal property... immediately associated with the person of the arrestee” at the time of arrest. [...] this loss of privacy entitles police not only to “seize” anything of importance they find on the arrestee's body [...], but also to open and examine what they find.

See the slippery slope and how common law works.
You simply set a precedent and move on to the next level.
Eventually the constitution becomes 'just a godarn piece of paper' because the people are unwilling to back it with force and the police continue to be willing to force the new laws.
