This type of thing is exactly why I'd rather not be allowed to carry a gun.
Under those circumstances, I'd have zero hesitation and zero remorse.
Yeah it goes too far imo.

Unsuspecting members of the public received a fright after falling victim to this cruel photo booth prank.
Stepping into the bogus booth to have their picture taken with a loved one, their moment of happiness turns to horror when they are confronted by two men threatening to kill them.
Donning masks and dressed in bloodied clothes, the pranksters jump out from behind curtains either side of the booth brandishing weapons and screaming loudly at their victims.
A YouTube clip shows a number of terrified couples left shaken and in tears following the harsh prank by Los Angeles filmmakers BlackBoxTV.
Placing a metal fence around the booth to stop them from getting away, during one prank, one of the men can be heard shouting repeatedly: ‘Do you want to die?’
The clip, which features the caption ‘We are horrible people, but this s*** has become addictive,’ has prompted a host of complaints from YouTube users.
‘It’s not fun, it’s sadistic,’ said one. ‘Those guys are just bullying.’
Another added: ‘This kind of went too far…’
As other users questioned the clip’s validity, one wrote: ‘This isn’t funny, it’s mean! Someone could have gotten a heart attack or something.’
Terrifying people into believing they are about to die violently is waaaay to far. I can honestly say I would royally fuck-up someone if that was pulled on me.
